Movies with such concepts have come earlier too. They had a story that two leading actors, having a very good friendship, then become separate and in the end unite again. But Dosti is not that type of movie! In Dosti, the friends(Bobby Deol and Akshay Kumar) remain together till the end!
The Main Characters of this movie:
Karan Thapar (Bobby Deol): He is the son of a rich man (Kiran Kumar). He likes to have a new girlfriend every weekend! For him, ‘ladki patana is a baaye haath ka khel’! But though, he knows the value of friendship.
Raj (Akshay Kumar): He is a poor and Karan gave supported him financially. And Raj supported him emotionally. Raj is a good-looking guy and always wants to prove that he can do anything!
Anjali (Kareena Kapoor): She is a beautiful and cute girl. Raj and Anjali both love each other a lot. For, Anjali family always comes first.
Kaajal (Lara Dutta): She is a sexy and cute girl. She is a modern type of girl and wants to have a boy who would care for her forever
The story is: The movie starts showing Karan’s childhood. He is on a vacation in his farmhouse with his parents and his younger sis Nandini. But there everyone neglected him. Her mother (Lillete Dubey) was busy in her chat with her friends while his dad was busy in social gatherings. So, in anger, he went out of the farmhouse and started playing football and that too alone. At this moment, he lost his balance and was about to fall off from a cliff when Raj saved his life. Raj was an orphan and used to live with his maternal uncle who used to work on Raj’s farmhouse and used to treat Raj very badly. So, Raj decided to take him back at home. Then they enjoy heartily. They sing together, laugh together and do everything together. They become the best of friends. They both grow up. Karan gives home, car and also a job. Raj and Karan both get their ladylove, Anjali and Kaajal. But a misunderstanding comes in between Raj and Karan and Raj goes away from Karan. Here the viewers get in a sudden sheer of excitement and dilemma. Why did Raj left Karan when there was just a minor misunderstanding? To find out, watch Dosti!
Akshay Kumar is as usual great. In each of his film, he does his role properly and gives the viewers some satisfaction! I hope I can see him back in some action role!
Bobby Deol too performs very nicely. He gets better in the second half. He proves that he is Dharam Paji’s son! But he doesn’t look nice in his long hair! He was excellent in Tango Charlie and Ab Tumhare Hawale Wartan Saathiyon. I hope I can see him performing with his hair short!
Kareena Kapoor was, as usual, cute, sexy and beautiful. Her way of smiling, crying, talking is excellent. She was last seen in a beautiful performance in Bewafaa and Aitraaz and again she delivers a mine-blowing performance!
Lara Dutta was awesome! I like her acting very much! In her last movie No Entry, she had the role of a bahu and in this movie she is completely the opposite! She can become more famous actress in the future!
Lillete Dubey delivers a great role. In her every movie, she acts very well. Sometimes I think that her age should be less than 30 years! Kiran Kumar was okay and any other actor in his place would have performed the same way. Bobby’s sis (Sorry, I don’t know his name) looks cute!
Mahesh Thakur as Kareena’s elder brother was okay. He looked humorous when he gets angry and when he cries! Juhi Chawla whop had a brief role in the second half, was as usual glamorous. Sometimes, I think that she should get leading role! Don’t you think so?
‘Sting Operation ke shikaar’ Aman Verma and Shakti Kapoor were also present in the movie! Shakti Kapoor had more role than Aman Verma. Shakti Kapoor, as usual, worst and Aman Verma was very nice. But I cant understand why filmmakers are taking Shakti Kapoor! Others were okay.
Story was inspired from some movies like ‘Ishq’ and another famous movie (Sorry, I won’t tell its name because it would reveal the suspense to you). But it is very different from those two movies. Dosti shows what the true friendship is! Some thoughts about friendship shown in the beginning of the movie are very nice and noteworthy! The humour in the first part is very nice.
Suneel Darshan’s direction is very nice and perfect. What I like about Darshan brothers is that they don’t show unnecessary scenes and keep the viwers glued on the seats. Nadeem Shravan’s music is very nice. This may be the last time they have given the music together as they have separated now. Lyrics is also very nice.
The only thing I didn’t liked is that the childhood scene of Akshay and Bobby. It was very unrealistic. It showed that Bobby and Akshay flying a plane, though they didn’t knew how to fly it! Where, on world, would two 13-14 year old boys fly a plane?
(Bobby Deol's son, who is shown in the last scene of the movie, has been played by my matenal uncle' grandson. His name is Sahil Chowlera and is currently 3 1/2 years old)
But though, Dosti is watchable. Go to theatres and laugh, cry and live with Akshay and Bobby!
