Speculation about his sexuality has always been in the media, his relationship with Delhi boy Shahrukh Khan has always been a major talking point, his attire is always criticised, his style of talking is annoying, his interviews are a cause for concern but one thing that no one can deny - The man is a commerce film genius!

Karan Johar takes the role of a producer once again, to give a director named Tarun Mansukhani his launch, supplies him with a good cast too however if you know of Johar’s sensibility on films, you can see that this producer has had plenty of inputs in the making of this ‘Dostana’

The story is very simple indeed where two guys who meet by chance, pretend that they are Gay to get into a apartment, the apartment has a lovely looking lady who believes this and the three live together, become great friends. Things take a turn when the one lie becomes two, three, four to gain advantages of the Gay law and order, even worse the two guys fall in love with their flat share lady, enters a fourth person in their life and everything that began with one lie ends up becoming one hundred lies. Story basically tells us that friendship will last forever, because you get to choose your friends in life!

The film is NOT about Gay’s or Homosexual’s or whatever you want to call it - it’s a story about friendship, where the Gay angle is just used as a mere backdrop and it’s comedy.

Abhishek Bachchan, surprisingly for me is actually acting naturally as the Nurse, he plays a Punjabi guy and yes after a long time, a truly convincing performance from him. John Abraham is there to show us his bare backside, as we all are aware, the man is devastatingly awful in comedy and his wooden expressions are laughable, I like John Abraham but in comedies I think other choice of actors would be appropriate. Bobby Deol is Bobby Deol and theres nothing more to add when it comes to Bobby Deol. Kirron Kher and Boman Irani are in small roles yet they ace the comic act they were asked to do.

Priyanka Chopra steals the show for me, a very good mature performance seen from her. It was like watching that Priyanka of the Aitraaz days. She holds the film, her every scene is wonderful to watch especially when the emotion of the character is down. After Fashion, in which she was brilliant we see yet another super performance in Dostana - a clear case of things aren’t going too well, just concentrate and things will happen, GOOD THINGS! oh yes, she looks stunning is the film too, added bonus!

My favourite song of this film is ‘Desi Girl’ and its pictured superbly, I think this song alone is worth a repeat viewing. All other songs are good and well placed, they don’t hinder the story being told. Shilpa Shetty’s Shut up and bounce act was great too, looked great. There was a particular background theme that would time and again which I loved, it was kind of calming the madness of the film. Thought it was brilliant.

Anyone whose been to Miami, as I have on numerous occasions, will agree that the atmosphere of the place, whether it’s the night life or the day life is captured in it’s true form. A good cinematographer can do wonders for a big budget commercial film such as this and that part along with the rest of the technical aspects are perfect.

Comedy - when people who do not belong to the sector of  ‘homosexuals’ and are told a good joke about that specific community, you laugh but deep inside you feel a little ashamed too. The jokes, gags, one liners in this film match that emotion of laughter and disgust and this is where the film works big time. At times while watching these ‘jokes’ I was all smiles but I also had my hand on my face covering my eyes. A humorous cringe-worthy movie experience but you can’t blame anyone because it does exactly what it set out to do, entertain with a mad cap storyline!

The problems I had with it is John Abraham & Bobby Deol but also from the end of the ‘Desi Girl’ song to the climax is the first time that the film begins to bore you. This whole trying to make Bobby Deol look like an Idiot was not done very well, I’m not saying it wasn’t needed, yes it did but it could have been more slick and to the point which sadly it wasn’t. Unnecessary for it to have gone this long because you knew exactly whats going to happen.

A film to enjoy, that’s for sure as very few will get bored with it, unless you are a Pseudo Intellect of course!
