Yes, I am writing a review after ages. but its not because I have not had anything to review...its only bcos I have been lazy...lol...ok...so here goes...

i had wanted to see this movie ever since it was released. and not just bcos its a nagesh kukunoor movie - that of course was one of the reasons - but also bcos of the media reviews. I had not met anyone who had seen it though. finally managed to catch it yesterday.

it is a story of two lives - zeenat's (gul panag) and meera's (ayesha takia). they belong to two different worlds - zeenat to the hills of himachal pradesh and meera to the sand dunes of rajasthan. but a common 'dor' entwines them together - their spouses are working in saudi and are roommates and friends.

meera is treated as Lakshmi of the household by her father-in-law (girish karnad) since his son is now in the saudi and earning well - enough to pay off the 'karz' and get back their 'haveli'. while the mother-in-law (pratiksha lonkar - I couldnt recognise her at all frankly...) doesnt think too highly of her...meera is a typical 'bahu' - the four walls of the house are her haven...and she does all that is expected of her...

zeenat on the other hand is a spunky independent working woman...and she is very friendly and comfortable with her in-laws - after the initial hiccups.

life is going on as usual for these two - until one day the bad news hits - shankar (meera's husband) is dead and aamir (zeenat's husband) is accussed of killing him and has been sentenced to death. the only way for aamir to win freedom is if shankar's wife signs a 'maafinama'.

and so the search for meera begins...with only a photograph of shankar - and a little help from a 'behrupiya' (shreyas talpade)...

what happens next...does zeenat find meera...does meera sign the 'maafinama'...

why do you want to know everything...go and watch the movie yaar...

the performances are great...the cinematography is breathtaking...and the direction is amazing...there is a bit of everything - serious - drama - humour...and the music is lovely - especially 'yeh aarzoo'

shreyas talpade tops the list in performances...

ayesha takia's transformation from blushing bride to a colourless widow to a childlike friend is brilliant...

gul panag is...well, good...

and both the heroines have zilch makeup...

basically nagesh kukunoor rocks...
