Me, the lights of Star City Cinemas, the sweet popcorn, and my Shahrukh Khan.
What a bliss.
Shahrukh Khan has shown his magic yet again.
As a newcomer to the Bollywood industry, I have just seen Shahrukh playing very mushy romantic roles such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer Zaara... movies which showed Shahrukh's talent as the charming romantic, but didn't reveal that he could succeed in other more complicated roles. Of course, I loved those movies anyways because of Shahrukh's charm, but I did notice that the situations were getting quite repetitive.
This, however, was a shocker. I didn't expect Shahrukh to do as well as Amitabh Bachan in a 'bad-man' role, but all I can say was... I was completely entranced by his performance.
Priyanka Chopra was amazing... she was quite beautiful (okay my male friends would rather define her as damn sexy), but more importantly she's very believeable... this movie will probably crown her filmography as it shows that she can do well with somebody like Shahrukh Khan as her partner.
I've started to respect Kareena Kapoor... which is pretty surprising. I used to not like her at all in the K3G and Mujhse Dosti Karoge days... but her recent movies really show that she's developed her image quite a bit. She was simply stunning in her seducing dance... okay she's not the next Helen, but she pulled it off quite nicely.
Arjun Rampal was also respectable in this movie... he shows his character's plight from a computer engineer to a single husband (his wife dies in this movie) with a lost son very comfortably. He basically fit the part perfectly.
I got so happy when O Kaike Paan Banaraswala was introduced... man, I loved that song when Amitabh Bachan did it, and this song showed Shahrukh's usual capability as a charming mischevious boy very well.
The other songs (besides the first one with Kareena Kapoor) were oookay I guess... the dancing was great and the clothes were great, but the music was okay.
Overall, I have to say I was very very impressed with Don, and I would definitely see it again anytime.
