Expectations:

Our Hindi films have been fascinated by con based films. Viewers love to see our stars conning normal people in films. Though most of the films have been highly inspired by some or another international film, Â there are few films like'Special 26', etc based on the real instances and happenings from our country. The main ingredient required in such type of films is to show the different ways of conning with novelty factor. Sonam Kapoor starrer film'Dolly Ki Doli' too, comes up with a unique and novel concept where a girl keeps conning well to do bridegrooms by marrying them.

The promos look appealing and the star cast seems promising. So, let's find out whether'Dolly Ki Doli' will give us another fun entertainer on the lines of Sonam's last hit'Khoobsurat' or might be another con based film where besides the novel idea, has nothing more to offer.

Story:

'Dolly Ki Doli' is a story of Dolly(Sonam Kapoor)who gets married to well to do bridegrooms and after their first night of the wedding robs them and goes absconding. Two of Dolly's conned husbands(Rajkummar Rao & Varun Sharma) join hands with the officer in charge(Pulkit Samrat) and starts hunting for Dolly. What happens next is what the entire film is all about.

Screenplay & Technicalities:

The basic story concept is inspired from a Marathi play'Toh Mi Navech', which was adapted in the form of a film'Woh Main Nahin', featuring yesteryear actor Navin Nischol and Rekha. The writers did change the main story of a con man into a con woman along with the mystery genre to a comical one in case of'Dolly Ki Doli'. Also, the novelty factor attached to this movie has been already revealed in the promos of the film, due to which the movie seemed predictable and lacked the intensity. There are some enjoyable scenes like Rajkummar Rao - Sonam Kapoor's wedding night scene followed by Sonam modus of operation, Sonam meeting Varun and his family followed by the whole marriage track, cops interrogating Sonam's grandmother, Â Varun s interaction with Rajkummar over drinks, Rajkummar's advice to Pulkit and few more. It's due to these scenes you are glued to the silver screen despite of knowing the plot line. There should have been little more time devoted to the Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma's tracks. On the flip side, the movie lacks over the twist factor as everything was revealed in the promos of the film. The soul and intensity were missing as the story goes so fast and does not get time to settle down. There are many loopholes and taken for granted scenes like, Rajkummar Rao finding Sonam Kapoor, Sonam's family agreeing to marriage proposal despite of police behind them, Pulkit's track and others. The climax was a bit odd and lacked the required punch. The camera work was good and the movie has been visually presented colourfully.

Music & Direction:

Music in such films has to be peppy and chart buster. Sadly, in'Dolly Ki Doli', Sajid Wajid's songs like'Phatte Tak Nachana', 'Dolly Ki Doli', 'Fashion Khatam' and'Babaji Ka Thullu' are visually good but lacks the chart buster factor.'Mere Naina' should have been omitted from the film. Director Abhishek Dogra brings up a unique concept and tries to present it in a comical manner. He highly succeeds in a few comical tracks and in extracting decent performances from most of his actors. But, fails on the soul factor as the movie seemed hurried and less on the content factor.

Performances:

Sonam Kapoor looks ravishingly beautiful in all her bridal avatars. She essays her part with total grace and does full justice to her character. Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma are the show stealer in this movie and are the best thing to happen in this film. Remove them and there is hardly anything left in the film. Wished the makers had given them lengthier roles. Pulkit Samrat apes Salman Khan and hams in almost all the scenes. Manoj Joshi, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Brijendra Kale and Archana Puran Singh are superb in their parts. Rajesh Sharma was wasted. Cameo by Archana Puran Singh and Saif Ali Khan was welcomed.

Final Verdict: So bol meri "FILMI KHOPDI" iss film mein kitna hain Dum?

Dum? Well, there is a good amount of dum in some comical tracks and fine performances from most of its cast. The movie had potential to be much better than what it is and should have more detailing attached to it. There is lots happening in the film, but despite of that, the soul keeps missing at most of its place. On an overall factor, the movie is a decent, one time watch and will be liked by the family audiences. Thus, looking at its script which keeps running on and on without settling down at any point the movie should have been renamed as'Bhaag Dolly Bhaag'.
