Clichéd love story that could have been catchy

Love stories being my weakness and Randeep Hooda being my even bigger weakness, this movie was something that could not have been missed, at least, by me. Yet another directorial of Deepak Tijori, it had the risk of being something like Fareb or Tom, Dick and Harry; took my chances to watch it just for the love of this multi-talented, chiselled and sometimes, under-estimated marvel, Randeep Hooda.

Let me tell you the story is simple, it is about a guy Suraj(Randeep Hooda) who is a former mixed martial arts fighter, roams about in Kuala Lampur with ghost of his past that cannot be shared or said. He works three jobs a day, juggling his life through this and that’s when he meets Jenny(Kajal Aggarwal) whilst his shift at a parking garage. Jenny is blind but she is chirpy, sprightly and really talkative. She is independent, manages to run a home and works in spite of her disability. She has this obsession for a soap opera which airs every day at 8 pm and she watches it on television of a random parking garage’s security booth(that left me clueless, as to why she has to walk a long way from her home for this).

Jenny’s bigger-than-life spirit is infectious and the two totally opposite people fall in love. Opposites do attract. This makes him want something more out of life and do more for jenny. So he starts working out at his old gym and with trainer, resurrecting his fighting avatar Storm(oh-so glad to see it). Months later he comes to now about how Jenny’s parents died. Seething a deeper secret inside him, he works hard to get a cornea imported from US for Jenny so that she can see him. To make that money he shed his identity, goes incognito, fights illegal bouts and engages in wicked activities.

His run for redemption is far more important than money, so will he be able to help her get her eyesight back? Is this the ne with happy ending? Well, no spoiler review, but still I would not recommend watching it.

The only good part of the whole movie is Randeep Hooda. His acting makes it really bearable. His training sequence to get back into the ring was the only thing that kept me clinched on. What really let him down was the story. It really saddens me to see such a great actor whose performance is wasted in this flick as it cannot do justice to his acting skills. I really hope Randeep gets some script that’s tailor-made for him. Or there is loss of hope for such talent.

Kajal Aggarwal is decent, nothing much to boast about her. She has seemed to put best efforts but the way her character is written, she comes on to peppy at times. Her part is to look at an invisible spot at 30 degs from Suraj’s ears. Sometimes, that not really convincing, but if director did not care then even I don’t have to.

For a love story, the movie has really less chemistry, though there are few scenes that melts ones heart. The film completely focuses on idea of love and nothing else. The beautiful locales of Malaysia really add the flavour but not enough.

All in all, movie lacks story but the beautiful locations and amazing Randeep Hooda experience(especially, after Sarbjit) is something to look forward to. Nothing more can be expected from this flick and really, Deepak Tijori really needs to wait more to taste the success.

A 2.5 starrer at best
