Have Guts---Do not Disturb

When David Dhawan directs Govinda in a slapstick comedy, you don’t need to be told to keep the brains at home. Because if you go looking for sense from the duo’s comedies, the joke is on you, pal.

However, the least one expects from Do Knot Disturb is some freshness, some novelty. But there’s none to be had. Dhawan not just recycles the gags but also lifts various subplots from his previous films(like Biwi No. 1 Kyonki Main Jhooth Nahin Bolta & others) and strings them together to form a collage of silly, slapstick comedy with some funny oneliners squeezed in the edges.

Govinda plays a cheating husband having a clandestine affair with a bombshell, played by Lara Dutta. His business tycoon wife, Sushmita Sen, suspects her husband and hires a detective to dig out the truth. Govinda in turn, ropes in a bumbling waiter(Ritesh Deshmukh) to pretend as Lara’s boyfriend to ward off his wife’s suspicion. Things take a turn when Lara’s belligerent and loose-tempered ex boyfriend, Sohail Khan, enters the scene. On top of it, Govinda begins to suspect that Ritesh is cooking up his own khichdi with Lara.

Chaos, confusion reign supreme in this comedy of errors as plot gets convoluted in the menagerie of madcap characters, including a funny Ranvir Shorey, a constipated Manoj Pahwa and an over-the-top Rajpal Yadav.

Do Knot Disturb’ bears an unmistakable David Dhawan stamp. There are double meaning gags(like Lara asking Ritesh why he has her photographs in his bathroom and he blushes embarrassingly), a generous dose of bawdy humour, and too many slaps. Almost everyone gets slapped around in the film.

Govinda is back in form but is let down by a script that doesn’t have much new to offer. Sushmita Sen is wasted as a chubby wife. Lara Dutta gets a few good scenes, particularly the ones with Ritesh, but she hasn’t been given a role funny enough to match her potential at comedy. Ritesh Deshmukh makes you smile now and then. Sohail Khan overacts.

In a nutshell - and make it a small nut - ‘Do Knot Disturb’ is strictly for the fans of Govinda and David Dhawan.

Watch it only if you are in the mood for some silly fun.
