Diamonds and dust. Review on Djinns, Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi

I don’t know how I landed up inside Djinns one unfortunate summer night not so long ago. Outside the club, the air is rife with competitive jostling and arrogant displays of ‘eligibility’ to enter for the benefit of the mustachioed and power-inebriated bouncers. Who has the smallest cell-phone and the largest car? Once the slick and synthetic gloss smeared crowd manages to slither in, the competition changes form in a very sexualized way. Who has the smallest bustier and the largest bust? More importantly, which University of Hawaii returned type brat has enough money to get these aforementioned seductresses drunk the earliest?

I’m a nerdy student of psychology and while we were drunk out of our minds when we entered ,I and the company I was with still entertained pretensions of conducting field research. Which basically means we were a bunch of broke misfits who sobered up instantly on learning that a goddamned pink mocktail costs 300 bucks in there (That’s two 150 ml bottles of Lady Di vodka for you) Not bloody worth it! Well, I may as well tell u about the joint itself instead of lamenting my pitiable financial condition. The décor is rather cozy with convenient little sofas arranged here and there to enable a bit of nooky when the bouncers aren’t looking. From what I observed that day, they usually intervene before you can indulge in oral sex so you may want to get back into the car if in a hurry to get to the point without much ado. Many of the resourceful young men had stashed away bottles of booze in their cars (could tell by the way they walked out briskly with their slinky haired escorts only to return staggering and giggling 10 minutes later) but those with virgin Mary sipping nymphets have to work a lot harder at the game.

Ah I seem to have only one thing on my mind. Making out is actually secondary on the agenda. Being seen is a lot more important. It’s pretty entertaining to watch these brats swagger around hoping that somebody will mistake them for page 3 celebrities. Anyway, if ur really rich you might enjoy the selection of drinks and the contents of the varied menu (Mediterranean and Lebanese specialties included). They also have a live band playing till about midnight that provides one with eye candy on the positive side and absolutely third-rate coco jambo variety music on the downside. floor space is adequate. Djinns is a bit like the beautiful woman with the hard eyes and mean mouth. From the looks of it , it’s intended to come across as plush and welcoming but it’s spirit , created by Delhi’s idle rich, is that of gold glitter over tawdry tin.
