After a lot of research on the internet we zeroed in on this place to satiate our temptation for seafood. We were a group of 8, majority seafood lovers and we wanted to keep the budget at moderate levels in addition to other requirements of family dining place, decent ambiance etc.
Fortunately it met all of our requirements.We reached the location by 12.40 noon on Sunday, had made reservations in advance.There wasn't much crowd at that time, so did not have parking problems also. The place started filling up soon.We started with Crab Kalimiri soup, which was hot and spicy and yes you could see ample pieces of real crab in the soup. It seemed a wee bit salty initially, but soon our taste buds got acclimatised. For starters we ordered the Bombay duck( Bombil) and the Stuffed Bombil with Prawns. The Plain Bombil did not seem as fresh as the one I have had at Gajalee, Parle. The Stuffed Bombil was awesome, couldn't resist the spicy tangy taste and we went for another serving of the same. Each plate of starters served 4 pieces. For the main course we went for Ravas and Pomfret, keeping in mind the season for those fishes. Ravas was excellent and also deboned. Pomfret did not seem as fresh though, however good number of pieces were served. Also the curry( Kalvan) was bland for our taste - seemed to be prepared with a lot of coconut. Being a Goan, the fish curry we prepare at home is more tangy cooked with coconut, but more amount of red chilli powder. However the serving quantity was good. We also ordered for Solkadhi's, again 2 rounds one at the very start and then after the meals. It was awesome, with consistency of cream.Towards the end we were so full that we could not go for the desserts .Ambience was okay and the service was also quick and the attendants were helpful too. I still feel the options on the menu for seafood was not as much, guess they have more options at Goa Portugesa.
The total bill came to Rs. 5500, so yes it is pricey. On the table I had seen a placard that there was a 20% discount on Citibank cards for lunch and 15% for dinner. So I happily handed over my Citibank card, but I noticed later that only a 17.5% discount was given on the overall bill.Not sure why. Also there was live music where you could give song requests to their singer who would sing at individual tables .The idea of music sounded good, but at individual tables was an interference.Overall I was satisfied with the food and service.Hopefully, I will try the desserts next time too.
