I am listening to ''Love song for a vampire'' by Annie lennox as I type this, and in shock as well that till now no one has actually written a review on this artist.
On the other hand, I am very happy to be the first.
Annie lennox is an artist that has almost everything, a super voice, an amazing charisma, and an amazing presence through both the 80's and the 90's, and lately with her latest album BARE.
In her 80's incarnation as the vocal half of Eurythmics, Lennox had already displayed visual savvy through both live performance and the duo's arresting early videos.
In the 90's, to be specific 1992, she came up with DIVA, her first solo venture, till date one of her best albums, though that does not mean that her music peaked with DIVA.
Diva isn't tied to a formally structured concept, yet its songs spread over interwoven themes, oscillating between spirit and flesh as the Scottish singer muses over ruined relationships, vain ambitions, and quests for love and identity in alternately teasing and tormented performances.
The two songs that immediately captured, and continues to capture my attention are ''WHY'' and ''Walking on broken glass''.
i remember my summer vacation in 93, which was when I heard it, thank God for the Internet and the wide spread of the concept of CD's now, listening over and over to ''why''.
i had not known, at that point in time, that Annie Lennox had sung one of my all time favourite songs - ''Sweet Dreams are made of this'', which of course was by Eurythmics as far the credit technically goes.
The songs on DIVA are
Why
Legend in My Living Room
Precious
Money Can't Buy It
Cold
Primitive
The Gift
Walking on Broken Glass
Keep Young and Beautiful
on the whole a MUST HAVE for anyone who listens to music.
