So I was one of the first few subscribers to Dish TV - I'm one of those early adopters. And usually it works. However with Dish TV I've not only lost my patience but also tons of hair.
Since I haven't used Tata Sky I will not make a comparison with that service. All I can say is that it's probably slightly better.
The picture quality, programs and pricing are basically the same for all services including set top boxes.
And they're all the same as long as things are ok. However when you'll get hurt below the belt is when you need attention - like the signal breaks, dish is disconnected, renewal needs to be done, remote not working.
That's when you'll realize how pathetic most customer service operations in India - for Indians(BPO for the firangs still work pretty well) - are today.
First, you just cannot get thru to Dish TV call centres. You cannot. Cannot.
Second, the guys there aren't very helpful. Folks at companies like Airtel have learnt their lessons and are comparatively much better and will go out of the way to clear a block or update a service. But not here. Don't expect any sympathy.
Third, they don't really seem to have their setup in order. No one tells you about your billing dates, updates, renewals. There are no bills that I get. So basically you're on your own.
If you're looking for a new connection go with your local cable operator with set-top box. At least you can call and scream at him and have him fix things in thirty minutes.
If you're with Dish and anything goes wrong with your connection you're unlikely to get help for the next whole week. And TV down for a week is like burning in hell. Specially if it's the world cup!
