Taking a Dish TV subscription was a classic case of a "Remedy worst than the problem". I will explain.
The cable wala in my locality was trying to extort a sum of additional Rs.150/- from me for the cable TV connection, when, I was seeking a connection for my home, when I moved to a new place.
This was when, I thought of going for a DTH connection, than be on the mercy of the cable wala. That is when, I went throught the reviews in the Mouthshut, though most of the reviews were negative, and still I went ahead and walked into the Trap called "Dish TV"
Now, I will detail my sad saga with Dish TV.
To get the Dish TV installed, I had to call the authorised Service Dealer many times to just come and install the equipment. As the dealer, who sold the set just washed his hands from the deal, the moment the STB was handed over to me.
Once the equipment was installed, to next challenge was to get the Dish Maxi service activated, which will enable you to view all the channels other than those transmitted by DD DTH. It took numerous phone calls and follow-up of almost 10 days to get the Dish Maxi Service enabled.
On an afternoon within 10 days of activation, when my wife and mother were watching the Dish TV, they saw the "No Signal Screen" appeared. I the evening back from a hard days work, I was upset by all this. Hence I decided to be adventorous and trek-up to the roof to check for the Dish Antenna. I was surprised to see the cable had detached from the LNB in such a short period. This only shows the quality of the hardware supplied. I had to use lot of insulation tape to ensure the cable remains firmly attached with LNB.
Within few days of the above incidence, on a saturday morning, when I was planning to spend the weekend watching the TV, I was surprised to notice all paychannels under Dish Maxi service were not accessable any more. When I contacted Customer Service(believe me to speak to a Customer Service Representative is the greatest challenge, would take a minimum of 10 mins to get connected after your call lands at there site) they informed me that there was no balance in my account. I was shocked! I was promised a free subscription of 05 Months but the subscription even didnot last two weeks from the date of activation. They told me that there Authorised Dealer had not remitted the money to them, which was collected from me and now the onus lies on me to prove that I had paid the money to the dealer(Suddenly, I remembered some old draconnian laws, where you will be charged by the authorities and the onous to prove the innocence lies on you. Fortunately, I had preserved those papers and had a scanner to scan those documents and send them to the babus at Dish TV. Still awaiting for activation as I write this review. The lords of Dish TV may take up my case shortly.
They have added the boquet of SUN channels recently and now if you want to subscribe the same, you need to apply for the same with a Dish TV dealer(as you apply for a ration card or for a birth certificate). I pleaded with them to activate immediately, as I am ready to pay the money thru credit card, as I do for most of the other transaction. But then Dish TV is Dish TV, they are governed by archiac rules, you will have to APPLY for this connection and may be a few days of follow-up will yeild you some result.
All the above incidents has made me a strong person. now I know, I have lot of endurance capacity to take all this bullshit dolled out by DISH TV.
So, my sincere advise to you is.
Pl. go for Dish TV, if you want to test any of your following traits:-
A) Patience - You need to have lot of this trait as they may test this to its limits
B) Endurance(Mental) - How much you can endure will be tested by Customer Service
C) Endurance(Physical) - Whether, you can climb-up to roof top to check the connection
D) Techincal know-how - Whether you can fix your connection your self.
E) Documentation - How good you in maintaining the records to prove your innocence.
