I got a connection of dishTV free with an LG TV I bought 2yrs ago. It was an HD connection and 3 months subscription was given free to me. Well at first I was quite happy for getting a free connection but then that happiness was short lived as the services of dishTV was really poor.
I would share my experience of how I changed my connection from dishTV to TATASky in just under a year.
First of all let me tell you that the warranty for their product is for only 6 months( competitors give 1 year) and nothing is mentioned on their box and they also don't care to tell you that.
My set top box stopped working just a few days after 6 months and I had to buy a new set top box for?500. Their product quality is very poor and they only give 3 months warranty on the second set top box you purchase.
Now let's come to the charges. They have very small packs in terms of no of channels. All the necessary channels for people at home are available on add on basis. This way my monthly pack was of?750. Where I had kids pack, food channels, English movie channels, English serial channels, HD channels etc. All they provide was a very large catalogue of regional channels that people hardly watch( and also I don't know urdu, punjabi, telugu, kannad, malyalam etc) . So in my base pack I was paying for just the bare minimum channels and I had the second to the top pack subscribed. Now you can make out for yourself how expensive dishTV is.
Then there is services. Well the reception was very feable. Don't know how that person who did installation set the dish on the roof but after frequent complaints, there representative came and then fixed my dish, which improved the reception and clarity but only by a bit.
When my set top box stopped working, I had to wait for 3 days for their technician to come and replace my set top box( it was not weekend if you are wondering) . They use to call me daily to schedule the meeting but their technician never showed up for 3 days.
They claim for best HD channels but you can also feel the difference in quality of audio and video when you are using it on a bigger screen( 50 LED) . There are blurring lines on the screen sometimes( even when the sky was clear) and audio sometimes use to take a dip all on its own.
Their booting time is also quite long compared to other service providers.
Also another thing that I dislike about them is their User Interface. It's not very attractive and friendly and has a habit to hang and freeze( then you have to switch off the main button and start again) .
For such a high price, other better options can be looked for rather than continuing this one only.
