Hindi Film Music's numero uno composer Pritam Chakraborty has had just two releases this year in the form of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom. This is quite staggering for a man who used to compose for a minimum of ten films a year in the past. Bajrangi Bhaijaan's music was widely accepted and Phantom too had one or two hummable tracks, but with Dilwale he promises to up the ante and finish off the year on a big high. Dilwale is a massive film on multiple counts and music buffs all over expect nothing less than a huge chartbuster album. Generally, Rohit Shetty's films do not have very popular music, but the trend is most likely to change with this album. Lets find out how the music has turned out here.
Arijit Singh, the regular in almost all albums these days opens the album with Gerua with Antara Mitra for company. The initial few seconds remind one of Khuda Jaane of Bachna Ae Haseeno, but the track takes an altogether different route once Arijit begins his rendition. It has all the elements that one expects from a Pritam tune, yet is tailor made to suit Shah Rukh Khan's persona. These kinds of songs are bread and butter for Arijit and he carries off the track effortlessly. Antara Mitra though sounds a bit out of place here. It would not be wrong to say that the composition demanded a Shreya Ghoshal for the sheer expertise that she provides. Anyway, the song is already a big hit on all platforms and suits the return of SRK-Kajol pair on the big screen after a long time. With stunning visuals to accompany, this track would be an even bigger hit in days to come.

With the customary romantic song done, it is time to hit the dance floors with Manma Emotion Jaage. It has a very peppy vibe to it and the catchy tune is something the youngsters would love. The lyrics are pretty functional, not that anyone would mind as long as the track is hummable. Amit Mishra, Anushka Manchanda and Antara Mitra do the honours here and ensure that the song is enjoyable till the end. Though the song does dip a bit in the antara portions, the rap part is well done and the beats are good enough to sustain the interest for the entire duration of the song. Expect this number to keep playing in new year parties and discos for some time atleast.

Arijit Singh returns to his usual self with Janam Janam, which is more in the Mithoon territory in the intial bits. But as the song progresses, it quickly jumps into the trademark Pritam zone. Though Arijit does a fine job here, one feels that KK would have taken this song to a whole new level with his knife edge killer vocals. Antara Mitra is much better here, than in Gerua and her husky vocals suit the passionate setting of the song. The lyrics are simple and Pritam's orchestration is brilliant which would ensure that the song connects in a big way in theaters. SRK-Kajol jodi has yet another hit in their kitty with this passionate number.

Tukur Tukur is a carefree, fun number with an ensemble cast of singers behind the mike. It derives influences from Goan genre of music since some parts of the movie have also been shot in Goa. Arijit Singh, Kanika Kapoor, Neha Kakkar, Nakash and Siddharth Mahadevan sing with a lot of zest and ensure that the tempo and fun quotient is high throughout the run time of the track. This one is more of a situational number and hence will not be in the charts, though one would be keen to see how it is used in the movie.

Daayre yet again has Arijit Singh's vocals, and it is crystal clear that the makers have not tried to experiment with a different voice. Perhaps, it is also an affirmation of the trust composers, producers have on the young sensation and the listeners are not complaining! This song is in a genre in which Pritam is a master. The composition is classy, the music is subtle and Arijit does the rest. The lyrics go well with the free flowing melody and there is no reason actually to dislike the song, thus making it probably the best song in the whole soundtrack. It is therefore surprising that the video of this song has not yet been released. Pritam can compose such tracks even in his sleep. Yes, it is exaggerated, but he does it effortlessy too often. Thumbs up for this one.

Benny Dayal and Kanika Kapor credited as singers. Well, what else can you expect other than a dance worthy track? Premika is no aberration to this guess. With these two singers in a Pritam composition, one would have naturally expected a dance till you drop stuff, but that's not the case here as the song ends up as just another average ditty. The routine lyrics too disappoint and it looks like a very lazy effort by the team. The singers put their best foot forward, but since the tune does not have the'x-factor', it does not leave a good impression in the end. The only disappointing track of the album.

The Theme Of Dilwale by DJ Chetas is a short theme piece of Janam Janam with added beats, loops and riffs. The soulful feel of Janam Janam is somewhere lost in the humdrum of electronic music. Just a few words for this- It could have been so much better!

Shah Rukh Khan, surprisingly did not have a really big chartbuster album for a long time. Om Shanti Om was his last album that was a really big success. The films that followed later had one or two super hit tracks and it is debatable whether the entire album worked. If any album can lay its claim on joining the list of SRK's superhit albums, it is Dilwale. Gerua is already a huge hit, Janam Janam has caught on and is quickly rising up the popularity charts and Manma Emotion Laage has done the expected trick with the younger crowd. Daayre is a gem of a song which will also have a long life on playlists while Tukur Tukur too would find its takers. On the whole, Dilwale can safely be put in the top 5 albums of 2015. Pritam has hardly put a foot wrong in any big release and he maintains the same track record here too, thus making sure that music lovers have a good album to enjoy for a few months.
