Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Oh here he goes again about Bollywood, will he EVER stop????

And the answer to that question is probably not. Sorry : (

Any way back to my op on DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE!

Quick Facts

· Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge can be shortened down to DDLJ!

· First major film with the actress KAJOL!!!

· Produce in 1995

· A Yash Raj film

· The longest running film of Indian Cinema (YEAH!)

· Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge means “The brave-heart will take the bride”

Main story line:

The two main characters are Raj (Sahrukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol). They both have been brought up in London, but their parents are from India.

AT SIMRAN’S HOME:

Simran is 19 years old, and her father receives a letter from “his Punjab” (India) from his friend. The letter states that Simran is no of the age of marriage, and ask her hand in marriage to his son. Of course the father is delighted, but Simran, not quite. She writes in her diary about meeting somebody in her dreams, know when she finds out that she has to wed, she rips her diary up into pieces.

NEXT DAY:

Simran’s father owns a shop. He’s just about to close for a day, when a man, complains of having a headache. Simran dad decides to let him in to buy some aspirin. Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) buys the aspirin, but tells the shopkeeper how sorry he is, and that he feels that he should buy something else, like beer!!!! – Simran dad objects, but Raj already runs out of the door with the beer (he did pay). Simran dad is furious when he returns home. Simran has decided that if she is to marry, she should have a chance to go abroad to Europe. But how can she tell her father, in this state???

EARLY NEXT MORNING:

Simran’s dad wakes up to see Simran, performing a Hindu prayer. Her dad is really happy that Simran is doing this. Simran seizes her opportunity. She asked her dad if she could go to Europe for 2 months, and eventually her father agrees!! – YEAH!

MEAN WHILE AT RAJ’S HOME:

After the massive party he had the night before, Raj wakes up in the swimming pool realising that he is actually late for his graduation day!! – He quickly rushes putting on all his clothes e.t.c. When he arrives at uni, his friends said that somebody has failed, and that the head is going to announce it right now. Raj is confident that he wasn’t him, and when he finds out it is, he goes up the wall!!

AT HOME:

After telling his father that he failed his graduation, his father plays a joke on him, a pretends that Raj has passed his exams. Raj’s father tells how all the 4 generations before him, including himself have failed! – And thank God that HIS son has passed. Raj plays along with his father’s joke, and asked if he could go to Europe (for a reward hehehe) Raj’s father breaks the joke, and beings to chase his son around the room with anger! Any way, Raj tells his father that Europe doesn’t matter, and he would work in his father’s office. But his father goes on about how; Raj should have a laugh on his father’s behalf, because he didn’t have a chance to! – (That part, is the only boring part of the film)

STATION:

Not knowing each other, both Simran and Raj, search frantically for the train they are meant to be on (they run all over the station – that part is mega funny) Raj finds the train, with Simran a few metres behind him. Being a “gentleman” as he is, he offers a hand to lift her up onto the train!

While on the train, both Simran and Raj realises that they are trapped in another compartment of the train. Meanwhile, in the train, both Simran and Raj’s friends believed that they didn’t make it. They are finally let out, when Simran’s mate comes looking for her!!

While in the train, Simran and Raj got of to a bad start! (Oh no!)

When they arrive in Europe (sorry I don’t know where – they don’t say in the film) they being to fall for each other, but they don’t know each other’s feelings (oh no)

But look, 2 months is over. They both have to return home, when they depart from the station, a song is played. I don’t actually know, but the lyrics, are “you don’t look around to see me . . . . . “ then a while later “a million times you’re in love.” It’s an excellent song!

When Simran returns home, she tells her mother that she’s meet the person in her dreams and she’s fallen in love with him! – BUT . . . . . her father overhears the conversation, and in a rage, shuts and her, until she cries : ( She tells Simran that they will be leaving for India the next day. There she will HAVE to get married, and she will HAVE to forget about this boy. (That parts a bit sad)

· Will Raj realise that he’s in love with Simran?

· Will they be reunited, and get married?

· Or will Simran’s father have his way, and force Simran to give married to his friend’s son?

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a beautiful film; watch it to find out what happens!

STARS:

· Shahrukh Khan – Excellent performance, this is one of his BEST films, I think! – He plays Raj extremely well!!

· Kajol – Well, what can I say? – This was the first major hit she ever had, and this was probably because she was staring with Shahrukh! (Maybe!) – Fantastic performance Kajol!!

PRICE:

VHS : £11.00

DVD : £22.00 - Prices may change, from shop to shop!

SONGS:

All the songs are wicked, they are extremely lively, and ALL are likeable!!!

MY PERSONAL OP:

Now, I have to say this is the longest op, I have written so far! – Why? – Because I can’t get enough of this film, and I HAVE to share it with all you guy! – Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is an EXCELLENT film. It’s a must see. And Kajol is in a towel!! And the good thing is that there are NO disadvantages of it!

Enjoy it : )
