Love, Romance, Double Cross, Misunderstandings, Break-ups, Reunions, and more.

Any film starring SRK sells solely because of SRK and succeeds only because of SRK.

‘Dilwale’ is no different but it does provide you some reasonable entertainment. Do not compare'Dilwale' with DDLJ else you will throw the former in the bin.'Dilwale' has nothing to do with DDLJ except that the magical romance of SRK and Kajol is carried forward with the same passion and momentum.

Story: Randhir(Vinod Khanna) is the Indian Don settled in Bulgaria with an adopted son Kaali(SRK) who takes care of his business and also his son Veer(Varun Dhavan).  Kaali has a bloody encounter with rivals(Kabir Bedi) in Bulgaria in which he gets seriously injured and loses his dad. Having recovered and with the responsibility of Veer(Varun Dhawan), he withdraws from the notorious lifestyle and settles in India as Raj. He opens up a garage in Goa where cars are modified and redesigned to give a jazzy sporty look. Veer, falls in love with the tall and beautiful Ishita(Kriti Sanon) who happens to be the sister of Meera Malik(Kajol).  Now Raj and Meera had a turbulent past of which Veer & Ishita have no idea. Meera rejects Veer’s relations with Ishita and the pair is separated. Veer & Ishita then launch an investigation into Raj-Meera’s past relationship and the reason for their break-up with the intent to reunite them.  Their amusing investigation bears fruit and the story thereon is predictable.

Pros: The SRK-Kajol romance is pleasing and so is the double cross/suspense.  Veterans Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi as rival dons added value. Boman Irani as the local don ‘King’ tried his best to sustain the comedy element in the film and so did Varun Dhavan. Kriti Sanon looked pretty. Sanjay Misra as'Oscarbhai' delivered with his witty dialogues. The flashback and present of SRK was nicely executed. Cinematography was splendid especially of the scenes captured in Bulgaria. The songs were nicely picturized with hummable music and memorable https://lyrics.

Cons: Johny Lever’s talent was wasted. The trio Varun Dhavan – Varun Sharma – Johny Lever comedy was ineffective, bland and may make you yawn.  SRK-Kajol romance appeared superficial in some scenes. At one point SRK gives Kajol a Fast & Furious type car chase only to convey ‘Aaj ke baad mujhe apna chehraa mat dikhana, jaan le loonga’. This I felt was utter stupid.  Also a scene where he clears the misunderstanding of their past by forcing her to a solitary place by the sea seemed superficial. At one point Kajol also enquires with SRK ‘How was my acting – World Class Naa?  SRK’s punches on the bad guys appeared kiddish.

Lead Pair: SRK-Kajol romance dominates the screen with Varun-Kriti romance fizzling in the background.

Rohit Shetty films: Most of the Rohit Shetty films are masala films and have done well at the box office. While his movies do provide you decent entertainment, at times they do go overboard and defy logic or reasoning.  This Rohit Shetty film limits the flying cars to Fast & Furious type scenes only, thus being wise and cutting on the budget.

Conclusion: Like most SRK films, this film will do well at the box office. This movie will not ‘awe’ you nor fall in the ‘best category’ of Rohit Shetty films but can be recommended as a one-time watch for your family.
