Warning: Adults only!!

Dil Kabaddi is a film which discusses relations, marriage and sexlife. How marriages fail due to wild expectations and lack of involvement. We have seen many marriages fail before our eyes. What are the causes for this failure? To win in a Kabaddi match, the first and foremost requirement is to continue holding the breath while repeating Kabaddi…kabaddi. Many fail to continue the hold on breath while doing kabaddi kabaddi and fail in the round. Marriage is a Mind and Body's Kabaddi Kabaddi. Our imagination may tempt and lead you to distant lands of fantasy but you have the limitation of body. Marriage is like a Kabaddi match where instead of one person, two can round the opposition camp (circumstances/situations/expectation) and any one fail to hold the breath, both fails. To win the match, they have to think together, act together & live together.

Samit (Irrfan Khan) & Mita (Soha Ali Khan)'s marriage is on the brink of breaking up. Samit is one guy who always wish to have fantasy in sex where Mita consider it as silly, who always think about something else while engaged in the act. She is a non stop talker and always keeps complaining where Samit is an insecure guy but get emotional and use the weapon of crying which Mita cannot stand. They announce their decision to separate to the shock of their close friends and couple Rishi (Rahul Bose) & Simi (Konkana Sen Sharma). In fact Rishi (A movie institute professor) & Simi (journalist)'s relation too is not moving well, where Rishi get easily attracted to creative ideas where Simi is more of a practical person who know how to get things done. Three more characters enters the scene. Kaya (Payal Rohatgi) who is working in Samit's office who is an aerobics teacher as well. Brainless, but attractive and matches to all the fantasies of Samit. Veer (Rahul Khanna), the newly joined journalist in Simi's office. Single and handsome but don't mind having a go with married woman. But he is not a flirt but looking for serious relation. Raga (Saba) a creative student in script writing whom Rishi is the teacher. Raga has a number of relations but still looking for more connections.

The film got many plus points. First among them is perfect casting, which let down many other films. The director chooses the perfect match for each role. Socondly, Well written dialogues are its strength. True, there are adult content but the dialogue writer keep his restraint most times and doesn't permit to cross than a limit. Excellent situations are the fourth plus point. The film may be missing logic and reason in many cases but there are funny situations to compensate, which tickle all your bones. The debutant director Anil Senior did a good job there. Cinematography too is brilliant.

Irrfan Khan...The actor is simply superb! After Mumbai Meri Jaan, Irfaan Khan gives a perfect performance. Soha Ali Khangives a matured performance!! Rahul Bose and Konkana Sen Sharma live upto their name and were very impressive. Payal Rohatgi was cool and hot. After Dhol, I can see the actress in a role where she has something to act. She is very much on the Mallika Sherawat way! Rahul Khanna looks handsome and did his role quite well. Saba is a new face to me, but she slowly but definitely proved a point and her different mannerisms makes the character different and rememberable. Perfect 100% to all the actors and for the director for extracting the best out of them.

I only noticed 2 songs, that too short ones in the film, but I could see a lot of songs in the album reviews. Those two small songs, Fantasy and Zindagi…were short but perfectly suiting the situations. Choreographer did his role well by bringing scenes which contribute to the situatin and the mood of the situations. For the missed songs, may be it is edited out for releasing here, or I didn't noticed.

On the negative side, the film doesn't deal the subject in its seriousness, but takes it as a joyride only focusing for the sake of a fun film. With a bit more thought a good message with more dept could have been given out. Also, the writer some how failed to segregate the characters where two main male characters have similar characters and the leading two ladies too. If Samit is dreaming of fantasy like doctor and nurse, superman and jailor etc., Rishi is dreaming of going to an island and staying there and the kind. Both dream big but when they really come up with a hot girl both react in the same way. Mita and Simi both behave the same way, when it comes to sex. Veer who was presented as a flirt in the first place turned to be a gentleman but without much reason. Kaya is said to be working in Samit's office, but with the given the characters' intelligence I am wondering what company is he running. Also she is giving her mobile number to everyone to attract aerobics training and the like. The script…which misses the totality is the weak point of the film, but thanks to the dialogues and separated situations it doesn't take away the glory completely.

There are certain scenes which brought the house down.

  1. Irrfan Khan ending up with doing Sheershasana in his first outing.

  2. Irrfan Khan's scenes with the sales girl in the shopping mall.

  3. Rahul Bose checking with Konkana whether he has 'hurt' her any time.

  4. Payal teaching aerobatic in a party.

  5. Payal's entry when Irrfan and Soha trying to sort out their broken relation at end.

  6. Saba describers her one word for husband.

The film is a hot adult entertainment which may be liked by couples and lovers. For those who don't want to watch it in theatre may hire a DVD before a weekend night. Conservatives may stay away from it where the film go out of ordinary norms and concepts and discuss few things which we may not expect from a movie. However, as a light entertainer with adult content the film is a good watch for a laugh. (Don't go to theater with your children or with your parents)

My rating is 3.5 stars, for one who likes the category =Hot, Light Adult entertainment without brain= and for others it is a non recco.
