Preamble

Every time, a song of this movie or the movie itself is running on any of the channels, I am forced to stop and watch, though it is a remake of an English movie, It Happened One Night.

I wonder what makes one watch a Hindi movie more than once, especially with the dull, monotonous, and very much predictable story lines our Hindi movies have. For a second, I do not believe we do not have talent. I guess what most of our directors, writers, and producers lack is the courage to break from the norm and really make movies on ideas and concepts they believe in along with a touch of simplicity and humor for individuals of every genre to enjoy it. I believe Mahesh Bhatt is one such director.

A Look At The Stars… (now, now.. don’t raise your head and start gazing at the sky, hee.. hee)

Aamir Khan as Raghu Jetley, cute, headstrong, journalist in search of a good scoop.

Pooja Bhatt as Pooja, spoilt, rich brat on her way to elope and get married to the man of her dreams, Deepak, (who happens to be a phony movie star who decides to give a grand entrance to his wedding by hopping in from a helicopter -- really funny, huh?) who is the scoop Raghu is in search of.

Anupam Kher is Pooja’s dad who is eccentric and sweet at the same time who loves his daughter thoroughly. He hates this movie star she has fallen in love but for her sake agrees to the wedding, but later once he realizes she is in love with someone else, some one more mature and down-to-earth, i.e., our Aamir, he even persuades her to leave the mantap and run away with him. Really a unique dad!!!

Tiku Talsania – Raghu’s jumpy, hard as nails, but really soft-hearted boss.

The Plot

Almost explained in the above paragraph. If you haven’t watched it yet, go grab a VCD and help yourself.

Kyon Mera Dil Manta Nahin..

Why my heart wont listen to me and stop watching some old movies again and again.. ?

Some of the reasons/lines/scenes I love in the movie:

Very romantic and hilarious- The scene in the bus when Pooja falls on Aamir, and he says, “Jab bhagwan detha hain tho chappar padke detha hain.” (… am not sure if he said.. bhagwan or uparwala.. been a long time since I re-watched this movie..)

The wedding scene in the end when Anupam forces his daughter to run away is quite funny – Anupam’s facial expressions are really interesting and makes one chuckle.

Another one is the scene when Aamir is teaching Pooja how to ask for a lift.

I guess the title song, dil hain ki manta nahin, is a very romantic, unforgettable number.

Another favorite scene is when Aamir and Pooja are waiting for their car to be repaired, then there is this old Hindi song playing in the background which goes something like this..

Hum hain rahi pyaar ke humse kuch na boliye..

Jo bhi pyaar se mila hum usike ho liye …

.. and they both start dancing to this tune forgetting about the world. Yeah, call me a stupid romantic, but it is a real cute scene.

Other lovely songs are

  • Mainu Ishq Da Lagya Rog

  • Adayein bhi hain Mohabbat Bhi Hain..

  • Tu Pyaar Hain Kisi Aur Ka (which is a little sad and touchy romantic number).

All in all, it is a movie that is fun-filled, hilarious, very romantic with beautiful music and worth the time and money you invest in.
