There are numerous films made in bolly-holly-wood over friendship over the years but if I ask you to name the best film based on friendship, I bet, more than 90% people will choose only between the two super strong contenders - Dil Chahta Hai or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Dil Chahta Hai was released in 2001 and directed by Farhan Akhtar. He undoubtedly sets a new benchmark of quality product. But at that time many critics felt that the real force behind such an extraordinary film was none other than Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan. Youth connected to that film very well indeed.
Dil Chahta Hai title song was so popular that it became a youth national anthem. Aakash, Sameer and Sidharth(seth) characters played by Aamir, Saif and Akshay Khanna respectively were shown what friendship really meant for. Later on many films were made that showcase friendship in real terms.
Rang De Basanti, a pure classic and 3 Idiots deserves an iconic status. One common force between them was again the ace Aamir Khan. But the main theme of both these films were not friendship. Yes both these films displayed a bond of friendship but the real issue pulled in Rang De Basanti was corruption and 3 Idiots main theme is that 'naukri ke piche mat bhago, kabiliyat ke piche bhago, naukri jhak maar kar tumhare piche bhagegi'.
So basically there was not a single film in decade that can challenge the likes of Dil Chahta Hai, a film made by Farhan Akhtar. Many were felt that only Farhan can challenge Farhan. But the one who challenge Farhan Akhtar is none other than his mooh-boli sister Joya Akhtar. Yup Joya in 2011 made Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which truly showcase the taste of friendship and make no mistake about it, Farhan himself played one of the central character in it. The other two were played by Hrithik Roshan And Abhay Deol. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was one of the biggest hits of 2011 and already won best film of 2011 Filmfare Award. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara again displays friendship, love-hate relationships, confusion and most importantly it teaches you how to live your life to the fullest bcoz Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sets new benchmarks in bollywood. Hrithik said in an interview that Zindagi. is once in a lifetime experience. Karan Johar after watching the film said that it is indeed the best film of recent years. Critics gave it a thumbs up too. But when the film was seen by the indian audience or our own janta janardhan, they somehow felt that it was more or less like Dil Chahta Hai.'Akhtar' sir name was one of the reasons why all these speculations, comparisons and talks were in news. Second reason being 3 main central characters cum friends played in both the films. Third reason was that both these films displays the life of high class families. So there are so much common in both the films that any common man who already watched Dil Chahta Hai before, and now saw Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, would always struggles to find out which one is better. Forget the basic plot forget the sir name Akhtar, simply the bonding and friendship between the three main leads of the both the films would allow you to make comparisons.
The comparisons were so made that many were thought that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is the sequel of Dil Chahta Hai which is completely false. So there's a big question arises out of the context. Is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara match the standards of Dil Chahta Hai? Is Hrithik/Abhay/Farhan take one step ahead of Aamir/Saif/Akshay? Is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara better than Dil Chahta Hai? Let me ask you a question first. If Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was made in 2001 and Dil Chahta Hai in 2011, Can still these questions arises? Still these comparisons made? I don't know. But what I do know is the fact that what majority of the audience think. What most of the people like.
The answer is simple. Dil Chahta Hai is the clear winner. Majority of janta thinks that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is nowhere near the standards of Dil Chahta Hai. The better film undoubtedly is Dil Chahta Hai. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is good but Dil Chahta Hai is great. Farhan direction and screenplay is far better than Joya. Aamir is indeed an ace khan. And last but not the least, its Dil Chahta Hai which is once in a lifetime affair, not Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara(^_^)
