Not a terribly refreshing new story. You know even before you begin that the film is going to a have a lot of Punjabi goodness. And it does. So much of the movie has a sense of déjà vu. The story line (inspired from the 2006 She’s the Man). The setting (Veer-Zaara, DDLJ, basically any Yash Raj film). The makeover (Rab Ne Bana Do Jodi). The costumes (Bunty aur Babli).
Personally, I like both lead actors of the film. Talented, likeable, hard-working and with the uncanny ability to transform themselves for roles. They’ve both had some pretty powerful performances in the past. They continue to be likeable in this film. It is the story that fails.
In a time of films like Dev D and Kaminey which are fresh, wildly creative and told with great flair, *Dil Bole Hadippa *is just a little too ordinary and predictable.
