I am not a fan of the James Bond genre. However, none of the bond flicks I have seen in the past have insulted my intelligence and insulted the craft of film-making this much, as Die Another Day has. This in my humble opinion is a travesty of film-making and a highly shameless and pretentious commercial action pot boiler that cashes on the bond franchise and gives us nothing but mindless action; mindless smut, and yet not an ounce of plot to boot.

The screenplay seems as if its been penned by someone with the imagination and sense of a 5 year old child. It is shocking to even think that this film was written from the input of a team of adults, more likely, from a young toddlers association. It is brimming with gaping loop holes, stupidities, ludicrous dialogue, cartoon characters and explosions making this more apt for cartoon television than film. Mind you, I have found more sense in an average episode of Rugrats.

It is so inconceivably far-fetched and ridiculous, that it has character with names like ''Dr Kill'', villains that have diamonds embedded in their face and super-villains that never sleep. It has an invisible car that is armed with an arsenal of ballistic missiles. That can execute every manoeuvere; from spinning in the air and driving on its side. In fact, after all this, it wouldn't have been surprising in the least, if it suddenly propelled itself into space for a short landing on the moon. It has an ice palace, where everything, even furnishing is immaculately sculptured from ice. Also included is the ultimate weapon of mass destruction, a laser satellite in space, that contains a ton of diamonds to concentrate the suns rays onto an unsuspecting target on planet Earth. Interestingly, whence it is first activated, the first target is the damsel in distress trapped in the Ice palace.

So much nonsense, I mean what next? A fire breathing robotic dragon?

Moving onto performances and the main characters. Meet James Bond, ex- cool British spy. Now a super-hero woman pulling magnet that consistently cites corny dialogue; has sex; dodges bullets and ballistic missiles and evades certain death frequently; surfs like a hardcore professional; and has amazing muscular endurance, as shown by his bulging biceps after 14 months in North Korean torture. It is evident from Brosnon's subdued performance on screen, a performance that lacks any charisma whatsoever, that is he inherently depressed and bored with his character.

Meet Jinx - Bonds love interest. She emerges in slow motion from beaches in a skimp bikini, gratuitously exposing her anorexic figure in a bid to extrude sex appeal. They meet. They have sex. They kiss. They have sex. They kiss. They have sex. Then to top it all up, she fences with arch rival villain woman, which both share something in common - they have met and had sex with Bond on the first meeting - in a final duel, both are dressed in tight leather suits and they duke it out. Now sarcasm aside, but what disgusting titillation; this is quite literally porn without hardcore sex.

Technically: Everything is simply too exaggerated to be appreciated. Action sequences though may strike a chord with some viewers; but do not with me. It is just flushed out with explosions - things which would literally explode if a pin dropped on them. Visual effects are self indulgent and of poor standards, utilising forced slow motion and fast motion shots - without very little relevance to the already hackneyed plot.

I found it extremely difficult to stay awake in this picture. I was startled at the immense stupidity and smut that was playing on the screen and it all left a bitter taste in my mouth. In my humble opinion, Die Another Day, should Die Today and Die Forever
