''Sunshine on my shoulders make me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry'', these lines of John Denver come to my mind when I watched Dhoop.

Dhoop is movie which has truly tried to make a difference. It is not only a ''different'' movie but it also tries to make a difference in the system.

The movie is about the Kapoor family, Om Puri, Revathi and their only son Sanjay Suri. The son dies while fighting the Kargil war and the parents are heartbroken. Gul Panag is Suri's girlfriend.

The first part of the film mainly deals with the relationship of the parents and Gul with Suri and then the way in which member tries to cope with the loss. Though it becomes a bit slow during this, nevertheless, I thought it was an essential part of the story to make us all feel for the characters and make us understand the depth of the loss.

After the death of the son, the parents are allotted an petrol pump and then it is the tryst with the corrupt system.

I always thought that sons who lose their lives while fighting for the country and martyrs and naturally, their parents are treated with utmost respect. But the movie, for the first time ever, reveals the ugliness of the entire system, where palms need to be greased even for getting things moving for a war hero. The disgrace and futility which the parents feel is heart wrenching.

The movie also makes us realise that parents who send their sons to the war are made differently. To knowingly send their loved ones to fight for the country, where death lurks at every corner, indeed such parents deserve the greatest honour. And then to know that the death of their loved son seems to have gone futile, for a country which does not even respect its martyrs is quite frustrating.

The movie is good, it atleast is different from the rigmarole romance movies. For once there is no Swiss location songs, no slapstick comedy, no petty fights .

The movie looks very real and something which is ''happenable''.

The performances by all in the movie is fantastic. Om Puri is the best that Bollywood has and is such a natural performer that one forgets, it is all make believe. Revathy as the grieving mother has done a good job. The way she copes up with the loss and then lends the much needed support to her husband is very good. Gul Panag has also done a good job, she is so pleasing on the eyes. And the best part is that all the actors and actresses are attired like we all do in our day-to-day life, no designer wears and pancake make-up.

I think this is good movie and it is surely worth a dekho. There are songs (ghazals) by Hariharan and Jagjit which are also quite pleasing on the ears.

Dhoop gives the much needed shade from all the jarring and flashy movies of today.
