The sequel to the original DHOOM which created quite a stir in the Indian Film Industry had a lot of pressure on itself. Not only did it have to maintain the Dhoom created by its prequel but also hadto show to its critics that it was not another sequel cashing in onits previous movie's success.
I think the movie pretty much gave what it promised. The trailor which was first aired was pretty rivetting and promised a power packedaction package with the Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan playing Aryan aka Mr. A , the mastermind behind the robberies over the world, the places upon being traced on a map would form a huge "A" all over the world. Abhishek Bachchan returns as Assistant Comissionerof Police , Jay Dixit who cracks his code and is determined to nab him before he completes marking "A" on the whole world , one of whose lines go through Mumbai.
I think the performance of everyone was good enough except forAishwarya Rai who looked too pretty to act nicely. Bipasha Basu looked steaming HOT throughout the movie as Shonali Bose in the firsthalf and as her twin Monali bose in the next. Uday Chopra came back asAli, a sub inspector in his same goofy self providing some comic relief. I think the Bachchan Jr - Bips duo looked quite good and so did theRoshan Jr - Aish duo.
But yes , there was no comparison to Hrithik Roshan's performance. He completely overshowed everyone in the movie with his charm , his dancing moves and his acting.
When Shah Rukh Khan saw this , it gave a tinkle to his " How did he doit and I didn't " attitude and wanted to become the bad guy in Dhoom 3.This is another attitude other that the "If Amitabh Bachchan has done itI should do it too to become as good as he is" attitude. Yeah buddy .. you wish !!
Well coming back to the topic , I would say the action , the plot , the musicwas pretty much so good that it would easily make one of the best 2006 blockbuster. The movie had a very successful opening both in India and overseas. As of early 2007, it had earned some Rs 85 crore. In the US alone, it had earned US$2, 642, 290 by early 2007.A must watch for all who like action movies.
