In this year of sequels, the most awaited sequel was without any doubt Dhoom:2! Every movie watcher had an urge to watch the sequel of Dhoom:2. Everyone had lots of expectations from this flick. So does Dhoom:2 meet up all the expectations? Before answering this, I would like to do a recap-sort of thing on the movie Dhoom.

Dhoom, released on August 27, 2004 was one of the coolest movie of 2004. Dhoom was the movie, which started the trend of promotional videos. I still remember that day when I had gone to see Dhoom, and without any expectations, the reason being the movie getting thumbs down by the critics. But when I came out of the theatre after watching it, I was fully satisfied and surprised, as I had got more than I had thought!

Dhoom had Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol and Rimii Sen in the lead role. And the lives of all these five actors changed completely, post-Dhoom. Before Dhoom, Abhishek had done lots of movies but no movie was fully successful. Dhoom was his first hit and after Dhoom, most of his movies (Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus, Bluffmaster!) etc became hits. Because of his excellent performance in Dhoom, he came to be treated as an actor and his fans increased!

John Abraham’s life underwent a tremendous change after Dhoom! Before Dhoom, he had done around 5-6 movies but he was not known well to the audiences (I remember when I had gone to see Dhoom, the person sitting next to me was asking his friend, “Iss film mein jo bade baal walla actor hai, woh kaun hai?”). After Dhoom, he came to be recognized, majority of the girls became his fans and he got movies like Kaal, Viruddh, Garam Masala, Zinda, Taxi No 9211 etc.

Esha Deol’s life too, became better after Dhoom. Post-Dhoom, she came to be recognized as the sexy-siren!

For Rimmi Sen, Dhoom was a turning point in her career. Before Dhoom, she had acted in Hungama and Baghban. Her role was not appreciated in Hungama and she went completely unrecognized in Baghban. It was because of Dhoom that she got famous and well-known.

Uday Chopra is an exception as no significant change has come in his life after Dhoom! After Dhoom, he got only Neal ‘N’ Nikki and that too was made by his own father and brother!

So now coming back to Dhoom:2!

The answer to that question is YES, Dhoom:2 meets up all the expectations. It has style, it has substance; it has everything needed for a fast-paced action-packed flick!

The story of the movie: Ali (Uday Chopra) has finally become the police inspector. He is now the ‘right-hand’ of ACP Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan). They get a new case and this time they have to nab an international thief. He is termed as Mr A (Hrithik Roshan). He is the most perfect thief of the world and had done a series of thefts across the world. His next target was Mumbai, India! Ali and Jai had to arrest this thief before he escapes away. To help Ali and Jai comes Inspector Shonali Bose (Bipasha Basu). In Mumbai, Mr A finds a partner in Sunheri (Aishwariya Rai), who was a pretty and clever thief. What follows ahead is non-stop entertainment, never-before-seen action sequences and lots and lots of fun!

Dhoom:2 starts with a bang and the fun continues right till the end. The beginning scene where Hrithik steals royal crown from the train, is outstanding scene and this scene is enough reason to watch this movie!! The other robberies done by Hrithik in this movie are also a delight to watch and are paisa-vasool!! Though the movie is approximately 2 hrs 45 mins, you don’t feel bored even for a second. The main reason for this is the astonishing incidents, which keep on happening throughout the movie.

Unfortunately, Dhoom:2 has its share of flaws too. In Dhoom, each character was needed and each character had his importance. But that’s not the same with Dhoom:2. Uday Chopra didn’t have much to do in this flick. Even Bipasha was slightly wasted. Also the songs like ‘Dil Laga Na’ and ‘Touch Me’ were unnecesaarily added in the movie.

The movie rests on two power packed performances of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwariya Rai. Hrithik is amazing this time! He is a scene-stealer. He has done such a mind-blowing job that I can’t express it. He has done around 7-8 get ups in this movie and in each get-up he rocks and does a fine job. His dance is outstanding in the title track. His performance in Dhoom:2 is the best of his whole career. It would be a big foolishness if he doesn’t get award for the Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Aishwariya Rai does a fantastic job. She looks sexy throughout the movie and gives a great performance. Her entry-scene is too good. Bipasha looked hot and sexy but her performance in the first half was okay. Her performance in the second half was funny.

Abhishek is side-tracked in this sequel as the main antagonist here is Hrithik. But though he does complete justice to his character and acts as usual very well. Uday Chopra as Ali does a good job and helps in making the movie funny. Rimii Sen is there for a scene.

Pritam’s music was nice but it was not as cool as Dhoom. As for the songs, the rocking ones are ‘Krazy Kiya Re’ and the title track.

Salim-Sullaiman’s background score has an international feel. Cinematography by Nirav Shah and Vikas Shivraman is first-rate and the duo captures the deserts of Namibia, the roads of Mumbai, Jamnagar and Rio de Janeiro excellently. Allan Amin’s action is as usual marvelous and helps in making the movie better. Visual effects were stunning.

Sanjay Gadhvi’s direction is truly amazing and he directs Dhoom:2 in the same way as Dhoom. It would be great to watch Dhoom:3!

The scenes, which rock:

  1. The opening scene (Superb!)

  2. Ali’s entry

  3. The scene where Hrithik steals the diamond in Mumbai (Amazing!)

  4. The scene shot inside Cinemax theatre

  5. The scene Ali tries to woo Monali (Shonali’s twin sis)

  6. The climax

On the whole, Dhoom:2 emerges as the real winner. It’s a perfect sequel for Dhoom. Though it has some flaws, it is a delight to watch. Please don’t miss it!!
