For some friends, difficult times are time to part. For yet another, it is a relation to stay together, dream together and fight together. Given the fact we all are human these friendship will be tested time to time. However, when there is goodness in friendship, the goodness will keep the friendship together. Something to share…joke together, dream together… In Dhol, Priyadarsan invite us to the mess and miss of the life of 4 unemployed friends.

(It is only a coincidence that friendship comedy films are ruling bollywood these days. Partner was a film with 2 friends, Hayy Babyy comes with 3 friends, Dhamaal comes with 4 friends and Dhol too comes with friendship of 4.)

Sam (Sameer, played byTusshar Kapoor), Pakiya (Pankaj, Sharman Joshi), Goti (Gautam, Kunal Khemu) & Maru (Markand, Rajpal Yadav) are unemployed and their various attempts to barge their financial problems didn't reach any shores. When one of Pakya's poor friends becomes a rich man overnight through a love marriage, all 4 are now dreaming of a girl who comes to their life to save them. Ritu (Tanushree Dutta) along with her grand parents come to the neighborhood to search the mystery behind her brother's death which police says is a suicide. The four who keep their friendship from childhood decides to impress the girl first and whoever the girl likes may marry her. For the bad luck of the four (and joy of the audience), whatever the friends touch will work against their objective. Ritu, by the way started her search for her brother's relation in the area and the friends see an immediate opportunity to get befriend with the girl and act as they are friends of her brother. When story sail smoothly with the happy notes, arrives the cold blooded villain Zikomo (Murali Sharma) in search of a Dhol. What is the story behind Dhol? How the friends woo the girl? To whom she will choose?

A revised remake of Malayalam film In Harihar Nagar which released some 14 years back Dhol impress the audience with its plot and the situations associated with it. Priyadarsan is one director I consider as a minimum guarantee director of Bollywood and he doesn't disappoint this time as well. The original version of Dhol had a good portion of sentiments where it is reduced considerably and presented for the mood of the hour. The director who tickled bollywood audience for some years now does the trick again to prove that when he is in his job, he knows his job. Except few initial scenes, the film really impress with its fun and suspense.

Dhol belongs to the Friends of Four. All 4 are equally good and they really leave a feel of friendship onscreen. When Tusshar leaves his innocent look and throw the wise boy image to the role, Sharman Joshi plays the lucky charm wonderfully. Kunal Khemu really made his presence felt and his hair style and difference in looks make his role as important as others. However, the hero of the film is none other than Rajpal Yadav. With his spontaneous stupid look and acting Rajpal surely delivers another splendid performance which will boost his career graph further. Tanushree Dutta looks like the girl of a college and did full justice to the role. Payal Rohatgi's Sophie and Murali Sharma's Zikomo makes their presence felt. Ompuri, Asrani, Rasika Joshi & Tiku Talsania add their bit of humor, Arbas Khan, Farida Dadi and all other cast leave their impressions on roles. Overall performance is excellent.

'O Yara Dhol Bajake' is a good party number which well jelled with the mood of the film. Dil Liya & Bheega Aasman are other 2 numbers worth mentioning, where the music of the film is quite average. Choroeography by Pony Verma is good. Where Sabu Cyril's sets are excellent. One song shot entirely in a set really impress with its vivid colour and feel.

The movie is not without its own share of flaws. However, now a day it is commonly accepted that when we go for watching a comedy we should not take our brain to theatres. Still, there are few avoidable mistakes or I will say ignorance like the making up of a pregnant woman in the initial scenes.

In fact the film has added scenes from Priyadarsan's Malayalam film Chandralekha and few other comedy films. However, unlike Bhagam Bhaag, the central theme is kept intact where the additions added value to the film and good.

In short, the film entertains you with its fun, simplicity, feel of friendship and suspense. It is not definitely Priyadarsan's best, but another entertainer which you will like. The twist, turns and thrill which tickle your bones…if you are looking for a light entertainer, Go for it.
