Star World is supposed to bring good programmes from all over the world to our television sets, offering us a different type of content than the ‘saas- bahu’ sagas. Star World needs a lot of improvement. While ‘Everybody loves Raymond’ is hilarious, ’Dharma and Greg’ is one sitcom we can do away with.

When I watched this sitcom for the first time, I thought it was a cute type of story of a young married couple- similar to 'Mad About You'. But it turned out to be very boring and seriously annoying.

‘Dharma’- This word has nothing to do with an ‘I am so sweet’ kind of Blonde woman, at least for me- I don’t know about others.

So, this Dharma meets Greg- a rich lawyer and they decide to get married immediately.

Now, Dharma is daughter of rebellious parents (these parents are kinda cool) who have very different style of living than Greg’s rich, sophisticated family. Dharma makes money by teaching ‘yoga’, and often talks about her ‘karma’. You will probably notice a picture of Indian Goddess, too. (Aaj kal hamare Devi Devtaon ko kya kya dekhna pad raha hain.......kaliyug hain) She is a rather weird person, always trying new things. Greg is a proper rich guy, always cleaning up the mess after Dharma’s every stunt.

When two persons, who are very different than each other, get married, then they are certainly going to have disagreements. It is nice to watch how such couples triumph over their problems, while reaffirming their relationship- whether in real life or on TV. But 'Dharma and Greg' is pathetic because here Greg is always the mature one- and Dharma is always the crazy one. So, soon the sitcom resembles story of a disobedient kid and a tired, ever-forgiving parent.

The jokes- whatever Dharma does and says is supposed to be a joke. Whenever Greg gives that ‘I am so sad and frustrated’ expression, that’s supposed to be funny. This is a terrible sitcom. I watched a few episodes (it comes right after the Raymond wala sitcom), and gave up. It isn’t even half as funny as 'Everybody Loves Raymond' or 'Friends'. Besides, it was a pain to watch the references to our culture- but why blame the makers of the sitcom- as it is some Indians have started selling our culture to the west, so there is no point in fretting when it gets used as prop in a sitcom. (Is this the sign of times to come? Too bad in that case)

The actors (I don’t know their names) act very well, technically the sitcom is fine.

The conclusion is- Do not fall for the pre-recorded laughs; don't waste your time watching this one.

Let's call a spade a spade. I am NOT amused.
