Devdas is not my favourite character. Yet I've watched most of the movies released, which were based on this weak apology of a human. Hats off to Sarat Chandra!
From Saigal to Nageshwara Rao to Dilip Kumar to Sharukh Khan I've seen them all, but Abhay Deol (the new Dev is his concept), certainly gives a new twist to Devdas. Dev D, most probably, if not for Emosional Attyachar and a never before 5 star rating by the Times, would have tanked in spite of the novelty of the overtly sexual innenduoes and cuss words a-plenty.
This movie is not for the faint hearted. Sex, drugs, liquor, risque women fill Dev D to the brim. Which other movie dishes out liberal doses of explicit phone sex, perversions, S&M, numerous cocaine sniffings, the famous "mms clip" (taken from a real life incident), and a BMW mowing down pedestrians (remember Salman?)
The two girls are extremely watchable and the rest of the cast too rise to expectations. Abhay, like Kangana Ranaut, has yet to portray a normal homo-sapien, barring a couple of his movies. A movie which does not fall into any of the predictable situations of the run of the mill hindi films.
Go Enjoy!
