WHY DO WE LIKE DESPERADO !
Why do we like Desperado, I make fun of all unnatural scenes in any movie, I always stare at my
screen to catch some defects in production, some defects in plot, some defects in logic
sequences, some defects in action scenes.
I know being Indian, I reside in a glass house, I should not throw stones on others houses. But
this film from start to finish has a load of defective action scenes, very unbelievable
injuries, very superficial shootings, BUT I LOVE THIS MOVIE.
This film is a great viewing, even after all the things I mentioned above, its a pleasure to
watch and ride along it till the end. The impact scenes are far, far away from reality, but they
are a magic of motion pictures, they are a PLEASURE to watch it !!!!
The impact scenes in this movie gives you all colours and all directions, over the roof,
skywards, downwards every direction, this is the great direction of Mr.Robert Rodriguez, I came
out of the theater content in my heart and body, my thirst for action was completely quenched for
a period of 2 or 3 years. Cars flying, Jeeps blowing up sky high, 15 knives hitting a arm at one
time, a defenseless one man facing a army of henchmen armed to the teeth, fire cannot burn our
hero, bullets cannot hit him, knives cannot injure him, it was never so pleasurable to watch such
scenes except in this film.
El Mariachi (Antonio) is my man, he knows how to sing, he has curly dark black hair, deep black
eyes and he has terrible rage just below his surface, he has to take revenge, to top this all he
has with him the most sweet looking round faced, black hair, black eyes, brown skin girl in the
world. Carolina (Selma Hayek)She is a librarian, a idealist teaching gangster's children how to
read and write, that too from the money given to her by big don BUCHO !
Bucho ! is the don in this remote Mexican town, his henchmen are all tough, he recruits them
after taking their test of brutality, The landscape, the people, the clothes all around this film
has a tinge of red peeping at you from one corner or the other, it is as if supposed that RED is
the colour of Desperados of this world.
The town fears Bucho, El Mariachi is searching for Bucho, he is destroying Bar after Bar owned by
Bucho, it is a bad image for business Bucho is running, Bucho needs to stop El Mariachi, so he
lends his own car to his henchmen, a bulletproof car to go in search of the man with GUITAR find
him and kill him, the guitar is a musical instrument and gun case part time.
We have lot of fun moments, small insignificant funny sequences, a few minor funny blunders by
tough looking henchmen, a tastefully added small kid 5 years old carrying a Guitar, a few
respiteful moments of love and affection blossoming are spared, there are just enough bits of
small things tastefully added in it to make it look the perfect blend of Spanish/Mexican chilly
treat. Beautifully supported by Bucho (Joaquim de Almeida) there are some other reputed Mexican
actors in this film, all do their job very well.
I don’t stop loving this film, I do not care who wins, who dies, what happens next, who actually
is hearing the confession of El Mariachi STEVE BUSCEMI or the father. STEVE BUSCEMI is the once actor who start it all, inauguration so to say for the rough action we see here, a little more
action there, and towards the end a explosive four pronged thrashing, splintering, vibrating and
pulsating climax.
I do not want to talk about the story or the roles, there aren’t any details, this film gives us
the beautiful looking ANTONIO BANDERAS and better looking SALMA HAYEK and action all the way. Just does not stop, it keeps giving us action and action...............
Yo action shakes up the Juices in the body containers of us all.
