There are lots of them about, sites that promise to reward you handsomely just for surfing the net and desktopdollars.com is one of them, available to worldwide subscribers but US based so payment is made in American dollars.
To register, simply visit the site at https://desktopdollars.com and complete a few basic details choosing a username and password. Then download the program from the site and install it onto your system. Load it up, log on and you are presented with an advertising viewbar that sits at the top or the bottom of your screen. You are then paid an amount for each hour you are online with the bar active and banner ads being displayed and viewed. Getting your pals to sign up too as your direct referrals also rewards you, and for any friends they refer and for the time they all spend online with the viewbar enabled.
How much you actually ‘get paid’ is rather vague as the payment system is determined as a percentage of however much revenue the site receives from its advertisers so this will vary month to month. Sadly, the current trend seems to suggest the hourly rate is getting lower and lower. But, having said that, there is no limit on how many hours you can use the bar each month so the potential to earn a reasonable sort of amount IS there if you’re prepared to use the system often.
However, international subscribers are going to have to be online and viewing ads pretty much every hour of the day and night as payment is only made when your balance reaches a minimum of 60 US dollars! Desktop Dollars pays up to 70% of it’s advertising revenue to you, broken down as follows: 45% directly to you, and then reduced rates for six levels of referrals starting with 15% for your immediate referrals (level 1), 5% for level 2 referrals, 2% for level 3 and finally 1% for levels 4, 5 and 6. Payment is mailed to you by cheque once the minimums have been reached, about a month and 20 days following the end of the month for which payment is being made. Cheques for March for instance, would be dispatched around May 20th.
The viewbar itself is quite unobtrusive and not too large and you know it is working correctly and your online activity is being logged if the green light is active in the bottom left corner. It will work with most popular browsers including AOL, but you must also have Internet Explorer 5 or higher installed if you want to use AOL. About every 20 minutes or so, a continue button will appear for you to click on as a means of checking that you are still active and haven’t just left the thing running and sloped off to do something more interesting instead! You don’t even have to actually be ‘surfing’ as such, you just need to be connected to the Internet and quick to respond to the continue button.
It is probably quite clear to most of us that people will rarely become rich from using these types of ‘get paid to surf’ schemes and I have yet to receive my first payment from this one. In fact I’m a long long way off ever reaching the $60 minimum despite having used the program for a couple of months now (with a balance of $4.34 at present). So as a means of making a quick buck, this program isn’t really recommended! But, as it’s totally free to use and if you’re on unlimited Internet access, it may well be worth giving a try but only if you are confident of being able to refer friends by the bucketful to use it regularly too!
