A trip last year to Ladakh was a long standing dream and every aspect of the tour was an uplifting experience. I would like to share about Desert Himalaya Resort tucked away in the remote Nubra Valley of Ladakh. The road trip to it is long but worth every bump in the road.
This delightful tent resort is a little gem set in a vast open ground nestled amidst high mountains. It is remarkable that this resort provides such clean and good quality accommodation and food service considering that it is in a remote area and lugging supplies to it, providing running water(yes, even hot water twice a day), electricity and food suited to a non Ladakhi palate is a super human task.
While some amongst are tour group griped here too about a' lack of facilities', I would put it down to their negative, unappreciative mind set.
The young men who work hard to provide hot, freshly cooked meals are mostly from Jammu area and their skills at the tandoor gave us all a taste of home away from home. I will forever remember their warmth and welcoming attitude in what are harsh living conditions.
The tent cottages are spacious and kept very clean with all amenities. The front row of tents has spectacular view but the row behind is also but a few steps away from the view. Try and not get a cottage close to the generator area as the wind can blow fumes uncomfortably close.
Sit out in the open and watch the play of light on the mountains, the spectacular cloud formations provide a spiritual experience.
A resident puppy provided loads of cuddles and I would recommend this resort.
