Hindi films are rarely dubbed in Tamil because not only it lacks south Indian nativity (which is unfair to expect from a Hindi film) but also it lacks Indian nativity (which we are bound to expect as the movie is from some part of India).

Even if a movie is dubbed it will be only after the movie becomes a hit in its Hindi version. Earlier the movie ?Dil se? and its dubbed version ?Uyire? released simultaneously and after that it is ?Swades? which had a simultaneous release of its Tamil version ?Desam (Country)?.

Reasons for Dubbing in Tamil

Asutosh Gowariker having faith in Tamil audience and to make his message reach far and wider audience in India has dubbed the movie in Tamil. In fact Shah Rukh khan has a reasonable fan fare in Tamilnadu. The People from any part of India can relate to the story of ?Swades? because villages in all parts of India faces all those problems dealt in the movie.

Having watched the movie twice once in Hindi and in Tamil, I am here to write a sequel to my review on ?Swades?. I was able to observe more details and enjoy more when I watched it in my mother tongue.

So far I have never enjoyed a dubbed movie so much. While watching the movie, I never felt it is a dubbed movie. The factors that made me feel so are

~ A unique theme that everyone from Indian can relate to

~ The village backdrop of the movie

~ The perfect lip synch in pronunciation of Tamil dialogues

~ Perfect choice of dubbing voices that suited all the characters especially for Shah rukh khan I felt as if he himself dubbed the dialogues in Tamil

~ Even the lyrics for the songs by Valee suited well. When I heard the audio I thought the lyrics is low in quality but now I could understand the difficulty of the lyricist. He has chosen words that sound perfectly same as its corresponding words in Hindi lyrics, so while we watch the songs on screen, it appears as if they have separately shot the Tamil version of the songs.1

~ Down to earth treatment in story narration and screenplay

Well if I have to analyze the movie, I can take up each and every single scene from the movie and keep on expressing how much I enjoyed that particular scene. The comedy, romance, the main theme everything synchs well in the screenplay. Though some of the comedy scenes lack punch, overall the movie is flawless in its Tamil version too. As I said in my review on Swades, in Tamil version the theatre operators themselves have trimmed ?Malai Mega vann (Pal Pal)? song from the movie and even some scenes which made it a taut screenplay.

The things that stuck to my mind after watching it second time are

Shah Rocks Khan. Yes he simply rocks in the role of Mohan Bharghav. Watch out his cute face expressions when he gives gestures to Geetha to hide the cigarette pocket so that Kaveriamma doesn?t see it and also way he expresses thanks to Geetha is too good.

The way he expresses his joy when Geetha?s marriage plan messes up is again keeps up his image of a lover boy even in this serious movie. His expressions and stagnant tears after watching a boy selling water in a railway station (Of course the most touching scene of the movie). And Infact I can keep on talking about every other expressions of him in various other scenes. To put is simply, it is Shah rukh?s career best performance from what I have seen.

A.R.Rahman?s scintillating Background score.

~ The ?Ayorae? piece which is aptly used when Shah rukh?s caravan enters the tiny streets of the village and also in the climax when the camera moves like a flight landing from the top to the ground level focusing a fight between Mohan and postman in the temple grounds. It is an excellent choir piece with various percussions.

~ The main theme music of the movie played in Mouthorgan that comes in the title and also at many places sounds as great as his Airtel music.

~ The brief Dhabba rap song that sounds in the background in Mela ram scenes

~ The string and flute pieces based on ?Dekho Na? and ?Sanwariya? song that comes in the background for romantic scenes between Mohan and Geetha

~ The tabla beats when Geetha helps Mohan to wear dhoti in traditional style.

~ The techno beats and keyboard rhythms that sounds in BG when ?NASA? is shown in a grandiose manner and also the final scene in which rocket launch is shown.

~ The short and sweet Saxophone piece playing ?Yeh jo desh? tune when he first realizes his longing to go back to India on seeing India map in the world map during a presentation.

~ The background score when Mohan buys water from a boy selling it in a railway station. It has a nice violin orchestration of ?Yeh jo desh? song. The BGM really enhances the impact of the scene.

~ The Santoor pieces from the unused song ?Ahistha? when Geetha hugs Mohan for the first time when he is on the way to leave India.

~ The tension building background music for current generation scene is also worth mentioning.

Finally, Asutosh Gowaiker deserves all credits for making gem of a movie.

For Tamilians those who don?t get tickets for ?Swades? in Hindi, you can get into the theatres showing Tamil version without any hesitance because the dubbing doesn?t spoil the heart and soul of the movie.

I think next movie of Asutosh will also be on a social issue which is ''How media ruins society''. With ordinary masses loving the film, the so called critiques trashing the movie so badly shows how badly the freedom of speech is used in India. The media reviews of ''Swades'' are truly inspiring for me to make a movie on this issue. Especially the review by Taran Adarsh is a trash. Don't believe in the reviews on such sites. But I am happy to read so many positive reviews pouring in for this movie where most of the writers are NRI's.
