I bought my XPS around 2 years back and its going till now.
In my personal opinion, I don't find this model worth enough for its price quoted by DELL. When compared to other models of DELL like Inspiron, Latitude, this one may not be durable.
Following are its features and its quality:
External
-
Overall external appearance of this model is Very Good.
Dimensions(WDH) - Very good for slim model(12.5x9.4x0.87-1.3 inches)
Screen size(diagonal) - Very good(13.3 inches)
System weight / Weight with AC adapter [pounds] - Excellent(4.3 / 5.1 pounds)
Internal
-
Overall internal features of this model is Good.
Video - Good(VGA, HDMI)
Audio - Good(Headphone(2x))
Data - Good(Two USB 2.0 ports, a mini-FireWire, and a multi-format memory card reader). Being a slim
model, it does not support PC MCI slots.
Expansion - Good(Two Type IIIA Mini-Card Slots)
Networking - Good(Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, optional WWAN)
Optical drive - Good(DVD burner)
Operating System
-
The worst thing with DELL products is their poor selection of Operating System. With their tie up with Microsoft, they have installed Windows VISTA alone.
Though they know that VISTA is not preferred by their customers, there is no option to modify that. At least open source OS Linux should be made as an option apart from Window's OS.
Battery
-
I bought 6 cell battery. It had life for around 1 year. After the warranty period of 1 year is over, the next week, it was dead.
Heat Factor
-
Being a slim model, it contains minimal openings for the dissipation of heat, that too at the bottom of the laptop. When it is kept in the lap closing those gaps, then no way for the fans to dissipate it. As a result, anything can happen to your lap!:-)
Conclusion
-
This model will be more useful for those whose usage is less and needs portability and expect stylish look.
