I don't know where to start. emm. I mean whether I should describe itspositives or negatives. When I got this laptop I was real happy to have onewhich was so called a BLEND of Inspiron & XPS. No Doubt it's overall a goodlaptop but I experienced few unforgettable moments.
On 26-Jan-09 I got a new laptop. Quite Happy. Came home, saw the piece wasalready opened from inside box where laptop is placed and someone has justapplied tape on the outer box. So It was time to go back and get another piece.Showed it to the dealer and got another piece.
Then Again Came home and this time everything seem to be fine. I tookout laptop and moment I pressed it's power button. It booted but I couldnot see anything on the screen. Hurray I realized that this time the Screen hadno illumination. If I see the screen against a tube or sunlight I can see thewindows vista screen. Next day again went back and got another piece.
So this was the starting. Now my machine after four months stopped bootingup unless you press the power button real hard. It continued for some days.then finally Day came when I gave up booting up.
It was the time for Dell Support. They took away the laptop and I was toldproblem would be resolved. When it was shipped back from repair centre, it gotall new Top case as power button was faulty. I was finally happy to use it andthen soon realized that it's WEB CAM & Internal MICROPHONES were notworking. Thought they forgot to connect the wires.:(
Again had to contact Dell Support, they again took it away & now finally Ihave got it back error free according to them but for me things which were toldby me to get fixed are still there. .They have no records that say I alsomentioned that Bluetoothis not working.
Let me jot down all it's good and bad points
Bad Points
1) Speaker Quality is Real Bad. If you listen to songs with full volume. You willhear so much distortion.( I compared it with the new laptop in showroom, stillsame) & they said they can't do anything fore that.
2) When you boot up the machine, lot of times the touch button will not work asEject button freezes.
3) Power button at right hinge which to me always seems a little bit notdurable. I have seen lot more studio's with power problems.
4) The touchpad is not much responsive. Also sometimes when you try to moe thepointer, it moves very slowly then you tap the pad 3-4 times, then it will workfine.
5) If you move your finger little bit on the left side it will zoom in/out the pageif the feature is enabled. Even if the zoom area is set on less width then alsowhile working it happens quite often.
6) The Audio doesnt works easily if XP is installed. IF someone has a solutionplease pass the knowledge to me also.
7) Not all memory cards can be used with this model.
8) The quality of the black metal used to cover speakers and other area is notworth. I should have been better.
Good Points
1) Excellent Battery life(9 Cell). I can use it for more than 5.5 hourseasily.
2) SUPERB performance. I have used with Windows Vista 64 bit as a base OS &have used Windows Server 2003 as a Virtual OS and used MS SharePoint 2007 abovethat still it never hangs. I am fan for its performance compared to other competitorsfor same configuration.
3) Super Bright Screen, when you see movies it rocks.
4) Two jacks for earphones.
5) Auto loading CD/DVD slot.
6) Great Looks
7) Very comfortable keyboard.
8) HDMI Port
9) Special button on left hinge for Wi Fi Catcher.
Overall it's a good laptop but you feel sometimes not worth the money when you experienceit's issues. I hope Dell guys will improve the features in this model as it hasa good potential to be on top in market.
