I  purchased a Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop pre-owned from a person on Craigslist 6 months ago. I met the person at their house(and it was in a fairly upscale neighborhood) and I felt quite certain that I wasn't purchasing stolen goods. A little over a month ago the laptop wouldn't power on. I contacted Dell support and was informed that the laptop was still under warranty but I would need to transfer this into my name to continue(which can only be done online). I've done this multiple times, with no success. Each time, they ask for a receipt or just decline it. When I've called into Dell, they suggest I input "eBay" or "no information" as the previous owner. Still declined. I've used the name and address of the person I purchased this from, but apparently it doesn't match exactly. So, declined.

Dell tells me it's under warranty. They tell me they have a good idea what the issue is(motherboard), they even tell me they'll sell me an extended warranty, but they won't fix this under the existing warranty. I currently own a Dell all-in-one desktop(bought new), purchased another Dell laptop right before this laptop failed(bought refurb from Amazon), and have almost exclusively owned Dell PC's for the last decade. This will be my last, and I AM still able to return the laptop just purchased(which I will if the faulty laptop isn't repaired).
