Delhi metro started in Delhi for the first time in 2002. I remember because I was in 8th std then. The red line route from Shahdra to Rithala was the first one to start and I remember how people went in large numbers just to take a ride in it.
Since then, Delhi metro has rapidly expanded and covered almost every part of Delhi and it is now expanding to other neighbouring regions. I am so happy construction recently began near my home. Now I won't have to go all the way to Dilshad garden in an auto to catch the metro. Before metro, travelling in Delhi was a nightmare.
Standing for hours at Kashmere gate terminal for buses which soon became over crowded, getting stuck in traffic jams in delhi heat and pollution. I would not have survived that kind of commutation. Thanks to Delhi metro, people save a lot of time and Money. Metro is very fast and reliable mode of travelling. Most people now prefer to travel in Metro to save time and prevent pollution.
The metro Airport link is a blessing. You can reach the IGI airport from New Delhi in just 25 minutes which normally takes over an hour by your own vehicle and God bless you if you get stuck in a traffic jam. Ouch! That can prove to be a very costly affair. Now you can reach anywhere in Delhi from anywhere within an hour. Thanks to Delhi Metro. You're a life saver.
