I travel by Delhi metro every day. Till today I perceived that Delhi metro is the safest means of travel for a girl in the city; but, not anymore. I entered the metro premises at around 9AM this morning(26 August 2014); put my belongings(my laptop bag and my handbag) in the scanner. As soon as the scan was done, I took my laptop bag from the scanner but forgot to collect my handbag from the device. When I realized my mistake I immediately returned to the scanner, but my handbag was nowhere to be found.
I went straight to the metro officials to inquire, but they were not willing to cooperate. They didn't even show me the CCTV footage, their manner was far from being polite. After I kept pleading for 30 minutes, they showed the footage but it was only a partial footage - the footage shows me putting two bags into the scanner, myself collecting my laptop bag, after that they refused to show me the rest of the footage, which should have shown whether I had(or not) collected the handbag . The metro security staff told me they were too busy to show me the complete footage. They should also have shown me who picked up my handbag from the scanner. When I wanted to register my complaint to the security in charge he told me it was of no use as some passenger would already have taken my handbag. I don’t understand why the metro has so many cameras, but they would refuse to show me the complete footage. The whole attitude of the security staff was as if they were hiding something.
My simple request is this: Just show me the complete footage of the incident. That would clear every ting. Or do the metro security people have something to hide.
To get justice, I am prepared to approach all authorities and concerned media, including news people.
