A lazy day? Lots of time to kill? In love with Abhishek B.? Winding lanes of Old Delhi fascinate you? Want to know how rumours are sprung? Wonder what religion is all about? Want to SEE Masakkali? All the action in the last 20 minutes?.......Go see Delhi 6.
See India through the bemused eyes of a successful NRI. While watching this movie, one sees India through the skeptical eyes of a foreigner. It warms the cockles of your heart to feel the warmth and compassion of us Indians. Yet, some time later you are squirming in your seats when a small "chingari" lets the devil loose in us.
There is a lyrical quality to this film, contributed in no small measure by the music maestro A.R. Rehman. The feel of old Delhi is so authentic that it was astonishing to know that all this was created in Rajasthan.
The horror of sudden, inexplicable communal riots is palpable. It is very clever of the director to use the Monkey Man (a real lfe incident), as a means to show us our inner selves. However much one carps at Delhi 6, one does not forget it in a hurry. Glimpses of Ramlila are skillfully woven into the story.
Abhishek is superlative. Sonam's main advantage is that she niether resembles her famous father nor gushes about him. She is an attractive, talented newcomer, who reminds you a lot of Tabu. The rest of the ensemble cast is excellent.
Viva Delhi! Viva India!
