So I watched Delhi 6 , despite my reservations .The three things that prompted me to go and watch the movie were the fact that R.O Mehra was the director , Sonam Kapoor looked amazing in the promos and the music was off beat (Of course A.R Rahman's recent Oscar triumph had nothing to do with it !!).

I am a self confessed cynic when it comes to driving to a multiplex in Delhi, paying Rs 50 for the parking and spending 3 hours in the theater watching a Bollywood flick, which in all likelihood has some parts that remind me of certain Hollywood flicks (I wonder if this only happens to me?)

Don't get me wrong , I have nothing against Hindi flicks. In fact , Mr.Mehra's Rang De Basanti was probably one of the best Hindi movies that I have evere seen!!Honestly! However , most Hindi films have an uncanny knack of disappointing me and they are very consistent.Delhi 6, I am afraid to say , was no exception.

The film did have a new feel to it , which I appreciate. The Monkey Man angle was really creative and well..."fresh"!.The cast was definitely attractive and the Ramlila was integrated into the film in a very different yet impressive manner. But, the film seemed to go haywire after the intermission.I agree that Mr.Mehra had a very relevant and strong message to send and as we all know a very touchy one too but after what I saw in RDB, frankly, I expected more.

I felt that Mr. Bachan's talents were under used and the other cast members (Waheeda Rahman, Supriya Pathak, Om Puri, Rishi Kapoor , etc) seemed to have been there just for the credits.I believe, and this is my own take , that when one sends such a message across, one needs to use more that one element to carry it.Agreed that Mr. Bachan's character could be theoritically used to represent both communities but in terms of the film, it did not convince me .

Would I recommend this film to others ?...well yes.Simply because it was different and it showed that creativity can be used even when one wants to be a satirist. One does not always need a yelling Nana Patekar to get the audience's ear.Had this been directed by a new director, I would have really praised the man's (or woman's ) work. However, since this is a film by one of my favourite directors, I feel it could have been much better .Mr.Mehra , keep at it ...I am sure you will get it right the next time!!
