The narration swayed amidst somewhere, our Basanti Mehraji doesn’t know. But the audience understood while watching the first fifteen minutes of the first half. That the movie maker got confused somewhere between Delhi and the script.

So there was ample of extra shots. The list begins. Please count them as you read them. What is so special about the sky of the capital – probably the blue colour? Pigeons were white otherwise we have seen them with grey matter.

News channels, which one do you watch at home. More often IBN 7 for kala bander and CNN IBN for rocket launching. Dilli traffic, rickshaw pulling, extra population. Yes, mother cow giving birth to baby cow. Little houses, narrow lanes.

A number of children running through those lanes and across roofs for fetching kites. Mosques and their Arabic designs, muslims offering prayers. Dark chambers, minarets, jalidar or fabricated walls, but who is interested in this flock. We often see them at Discovery Channel. They still say Discover India. But Mehra isn’t saying the right way.

These extra shots ask us explore the science, history, riots, fun, games, history, adventure, Ramlila and its pun… Oh my God. Please stop.

Waheedaji is evergreen. Rishi Kapoor is superb, and the rest are also good including Supriya Pathak, Om Puri and many others. If Abhishek is Bachchan, he can’t always play a hero. Abhishek looks no-NRI with his folded-back-hair and unclean face.

Abhishek either expresses keeping mute or with an accent which only he can understand, the police inspector has good dialogues to deliver with. ‘Tanne rukane ki permission di ke manne. Chal chalu rakh’.

Jalebi is prickly pointed, she is not generous, even if she does not win she knows how to revolt, while Sonam is equally foolish, knows nothing. She sways dupatta, wears antique jewellery, plays with Masakkali on head. Beautiful she is, but do not expect intelligence. Rat poison is an old drama, Sweetie.

‘Sasural Genda Phool’ is absolutely sweet and you remember it long for its essence. Thanks Prasoon, you just sounded like Gulzar. The real message in the movie was on some of the heavy social ‘custom-duty’. Like, the famous bride-viewing, a little dowry, casteism, late marriage – a curse for girls, untouchability, hindu muslim riots.

Here a little question arises for our Mehraji, if he had to lecture on hindu muslim unity, why are you not showing the riots clips in the movie promos? Why projecting as if it’s a movie on love between the beautiful heroine and unshaven hero? Say ‘Jai Bajrang Bali’, and leave the theatre.
