Welcome to the Dewan family.They live in a posh neighbourhood somewhere.In a big house.The family is headed by Daddyji and Mummyji(Sushma Seth).They have two sons-Balraj(Navin Nischol) and Sameer(Shekhar Suman).Balraj's wife is Suhasini(Farida Jalal) and Sameer's wife is called Chachi(Bhavna Balsaver) by all.The two brothers have children some of whom are grown up.But be as it might the Dewans are a little mad.Just like the average Joe on the street.They are always doing things that make us break into helpless guffaws.They do the most mundane things and in doing so their mistakes are funny.And that's what makes them special.Let us not forget Karima, the servant with an attitude.Without him, nothing ever gets done.
Indeed, this was an introduction to the storyline of Saraswati Audio Visuals comedy'Dekh Bhai Dekh'.First telecast in 1993 it has had more reruns than any other indian serial.It was in essence the story of a new, confident india.Its eccentricities, its idiosyncrasies.A story of how we are coping with a changing society.Written to perfection by Lilliput and the director and directed beautifully by Anand Mahendroo it was truly a laugh riot.The jokes were always about the situations and the people's reactions to crises made us roll with laughter.It was a new age, a completely fresh approach to making a light, crisp comedy.What was different was its fast pace, its modern, still relevant setting and total lack of reverence.
