Deewangee is written and directed by Anees Bazmee. It has a novel story with a few loose ends.

You will be deceived by what you see.

The first half of Deewangee is full of surprises. The courtroom scenes and the sequences between Ajay and Akshay are particularly impressive. The scenes featuring Seema Biswas and Ajay Devgan are marvelous and catch the audience attention. Especially the one when Ajay’s split personality comes to the fore, further elevates the audience interest. The interval point is the highlight of the film that makes the viewer sit for the second half.

The second half is too short that appears as a big weak point of the film. The big suspense of the film is obviously a murder mystery.

Ajay Devgan essays a complex role with utmost ease. Akshay Khanna is on his way to become better with every film. Urmila Mantondkar does well in a role where she does not have much scope to perform.

On the whole, It is a difficult task trying to find an upside to a film like Deewangee. There is nothing exciting about either the situations or the dialogues --- at least not for someone who already knows the story. Sadly, Ismail Darbar's music too lacks lustre.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali credited Saratchandra Chattopadhyay for a story that just wasn't Devdas, while Bazmee merrily puts his own name down as the writer of a plot that clearly is not his.

If you have not seen Primal Fear, you might want to watch Deewangee. But then, if you have to watch Deewangee, you may as well watch the original.
