There are some films that defy logic. The director's idea is clear while making films of this genre – simply don't tax your brains, just sit back, watch and laugh! Vikram Bhatt's Dewaane huye Paagal is perfect example!I was in a bad mood before entering the theatre screening Dewaane Huye Paagal but ......The film takes you on a roller coaster ride, what with logic taking a complete backseat.

Director Vikram Bhatt reunites with Akshay Kumar ,Sunil Shetty ,Paresh Rawal and Feroz Nadiadwala for yet another rib-tickling comedy after Aawara Paagal Dewaana which was a super hit. Lacing the film with bizarre incidents , the film lives up to the tag of 'timepass entertainment' that is the mantra of an average cinegoer. To make an entire cinema full of people laugh constantly for just over two hours is NOT an easy feat yet Vikram Bhatt efficiently manages this.Heck the genre itself is one of the hardest to make a film in and DHP is one film which doesn't make you smile or giggle-it makes you laugh!

The film begins as a routine love story with romance between Shahid Kapoor and Rimi Sen .Both are graduate students.

Actual drama takes place when Om Puri 1[scientist] is murdered by his own brother Om Puri 2 in search of a secret code . Unfortunately Rimi is eye witness of this murder.[Meanwhile the narration by joker sorry narrator Vivek Oberoi is a major stumbling block!]

So she has no option but to leave the country [India] and settle down in Dubai to save her life!Unknowingly ,the secret code is trapped a toy that belongs to Shahid Kapoor.

After 3 years...

Shahid wants to find Rimi at any cost .Supporting him are Johny Lever and company. They discover that Rimi is currently living in Dubai with new identity. They take the help of detective Akshay to enquire more about her .But ....Akshay Kumar is more of casonova falling in love with every second women. So Rimi is not an exception...!Akshay informs Shahid that Rimi’s a single mother of six! Just when Shahid is about to return, he discovers Rimi during her debut music album release party!

That's not all! Even Paresh and Sunil are vying for her attention .Sunil Shetty is pretending to be an architect whereas Paresh is physically disabled soul who is totally fit in reality. What follows are series of bizzare incidents with several hilarious moments.Meanwhile Om Puri is also searching for the group. Finally the secret code is discovered and girl gets her right man! Right Man? Keep guessing.Giving away the suspense would be taking away the fun and excitement away from this terrific movie.

Director Vikram Bhatt flair for comedy was evident in AWara Paagal Dewaana and he carries it forward this time around. Vikram Bhatt comes up with a winning story. The story grabs the viewers interest from the start. The real winner is the crackling screenplay which is superb.. The sequence of events that unfold one after the other never get boring at all-infact they get better frame after frame. * Two, the film moves at a feverish pace, not giving you time to think or blink an eyelid.Three, the second part – mainly the climax – uplifts the film to a major extent. The the climax catches you unaware and the concluding reels are simply hilarious. In fact, the climax changes the graph of the film completely.

A few sequences [in the first half] are simply hilarious like!

-The introduction of Akshay Kumar in a club and sequences that follow .

-The arguement that ensues between Akshay ,Paresh Rawal and company in Dubai.

-The dog chase part.

-When Shahid comes to know about the true identity of Akshay Kumar.

-The murder sequence of Om puri in the very beginning!

-When true physical conditions of Paresh-Sunil come to the fore!

A comedy NEVER works if the dialogues don't work. Some of the biggest comedies fail due to their tired and oft repeated dialogues and here is where dialogue writer deserves a special mention for writing some of the funniest, freshest and most punch packed lines I have heard in a long time. Each actor has their lines tailormade and right from the very start to the end the dialogues are racy and pack a punch!

However the film is not without its share of flaws-The premise of the story is of the heroine arriving all the way from India to Dubai to save her life , but all she does throughout the first half is look pretty, wear designer outfits, run around trees ,launch her first album … conveniently forgetting why she came to the place in the first place.

Also the 25 year track involving scientist looks far from convincing! There are times when you feel that the writer is actually forcing the comedy down your throat- for instance-The antics of Vijay Raaz get on your nerve after a point!

Cinematography is excellent. The outdoor locales and also the overall ambience have been captured to perfection. The background score is apt.The music of the film is apt and is keeping in sync with the films mood and theme. It is youthful and has been picturised well. The Mar Sutiya track and 'meri Jaane Jigar' are the best songs in the film. The CHAKLE song has been well picturised and is sizzling but the placing of the song is a downer as it slows the film down.

.

The stunts are fantastic towards the finale. The technique used for the stunts adds to the impact.

If you thought Akshay Kumar was funny in Garam Masala then beware----Akshay is funnier in DHP. The actor plays to the gallery in a role that is tailormade for him. His spontaneous comic timing is just undescribable as he hits all the right notes everytime. He has played a comic role in a lot of movies off late including but as Rocky adds a unique touch to his character setting it apart from other similar roles he has played. One does feel that this role isn't a huge challenge for AKshay after the likes of GM ,KHAKEE and MSK as he gives it all he has got. Be it in the comic sequences with Paresh and Sunil, the dramatic sequences or the dance competition with Shahid-Akshay is flawless!

Shaheed too is great in his first outright comic role ever. He loosens up in front of the camera from his usual boy look and deliverys a completely relaxed and natural performance which really takes the viewer by surprise. His scenes with Akshay are hilarious and their chemistry is simply crackling! Even as a loverboy ,he is fantastic! A good slap on the face of all those cynics who consider him to be a baby boy!

Paresh Rawal' character requires him to portray his actions more with his body language and eye movement rather than dialogues and Rawal does that to perfection .. Yet again proof that Rawal is a natural born actor regardless of what the role is. Sunil Shetty is definetly one who springs a surprise his perfect comic timing! Rimi Sen makes her presence felt in a male-dominated film.. Her performance towards the end when she to choose between 4 mens brings the house down!

Vijay Raaz plays totally to the gallery and will be appreicated in his part ,though he overacts in some scenes! Om Puri is brilliant yet again after after Kyun Ki.....Suresh Menon is terrific.Aftab is so so in his cameo ditto for Vivek who hams to the hilt.

All up DHP IS A MUST-SEE! It is the type of film which leaves you wanting a re-watch straight after you've watched it the first time..an absolute winner all the way!
