Sometime back I received a mail from ICICI bank about an offer for yearly subscription of the newspaper, 'Deccan Chronicle' for Rs.99. Attracted by the offer, I subscribed for it through my ICICI credit card. I was told that the subscription would start after 21 days. It did start, but I received the newpaper for just 3 days and then it stopped!!! I reported the matter to ICICI bank through internet and through phone and I was told to contact Deccan Chronicle office. Contacting Deccan Chronicle office was useless as the subscription never started again. Its almost two months now, several mails have been sent to ICICI bank, but nothing happened. Replying to every mail, the ICICI officials assured that they are taking up the matter with Deccan Chronicle, but in vain. I demanded the refund of my amount as the bank has failed to fulfill its promise of yearly subscription and was told very rudely that the amount cannot be refunded. I feel severely harassed by the entire incident. This incident gives me a feeling that the promo offer by ICICI bank/Deccan Chronicle was a fraudulent one and many others like me would have fallen prey to it like me. The bank should have checked the authenticity of the newspaper before offering such promo to its customers. When I contacted a local distributor of the newspaper who distributes the newspaper in my apartment, I came to know that the promo has failed very badly and only 20% of the customers who have applied for it are getting the newspaper as the supply is only that much.
