Overall, Dear Zindagi is a modern, upbeat film about life that’s both entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The movie doesn’t eschew from asking the difficult questions. The movie’s USP is the unique pairing of SRK and Alia. It is what makes Dear Zindagi tick. While Alia plays her complex character with great conviction, SRK makes his charismatic screen presence felt while playing a part that a lesser performer may have easily goofed up. It is heartening to see the superstar take up bigger and newer challenges—something that has been the hallmark of his stellar film career. SRK and Alia are well backed up by the movie’s supporting cast. Kunal Kapoor deserves a special mention here. It is good to see him star in major film after a long time. The film is beautifully shot by Laxman Utekar and Amit Trivedi’s music breathes life into it. Dear Zindagi is targeted at multiplex ( read anglophone) audiences and may not succeed in wooing the single screen audiences in the same capacity, but it should do well in the Metro, Tier I, and Tier II cities.
