Tensed faces , biting their nails off , all paled out ... these are a common sight in Mumbai during the months May and June.Yup these are anxious students waiting for their results !!!
Exams - The Need for the same
Since Long, education has been standardized into schools and colleges, why even before the same had been done there has always been an examination. What is an Examination ? .. I would define it as a test of ones skills in their area of specialization. The concept of Examination always differs, In India we have fixed dates of examinations where students prepare well beforehand and appear for the same. In West read the U S of A, things are pretty different, examinations are generally a series of surprised tests along with projects assigned.. and an aggregate grade given at the end of the Semester or the year based on the performance of these tests and projects. As a student I have and all the student in this galaxy would curse exams. Its natural I must say but essential. I believe in having a certain imbalance to life , without it there wouldn't be Motivation, a drive to achieve , a burning desire !!!
Exams are essential in picking the right person for the right area of work, it's a perfect selection tool , the world may end and start again but examinations would never go !!! , it would appear again in another form another word or probably just the same old Exams !!!
One advice to people giving exams , remember , you may study 10 hours, 100 hours or probably a million times but ultimately the three hours or the certain duration of the exam is what matters ... be sure not to cram last minute notes, listen to some twerp saying '' Havent you studied that .. it surely would come for the exam '' , if you haven't prepared for that particular topic.. forget it now, how could you possibly finish it in half an hour ? so just relax .. say a small prayer exude confidence and fill those pages !!
Post Exams - Pre Results
The alarm goes off , the teacher collects your answer Sheet and off you go trotting down the stairs , full of glee grinning from ear to ear ... the Examinations are finally over. Some of us have gone through this phase ... some of us are going through others will go through !!! It's a funny feeling .. however well one fares at the examinations the anxiety the lack of resoluteness haunts you. Tired after the grueling routine of examination preparation and the tension packed Exams one always chills out doing their kind of thing ... But at the back of their minds the fear of results always haunts you !!! Some points here to follow -
Don't Discuss you answers with your peers, you best friends or probably grab the book to check whether you have done it right !!! it only adds to your tensions and helps spoil your well deserved vacation .
Don't think about some paper gone bad ... and sit all night calculating your possible score .. the damage if done has been done , no use crying over spilt milk so look ahead !!!
Coping with Post Results Scenario
Imagine a world where everyone gets what he wants, achieves what he wants to achieve .. a world of no competition .. HOW BORING !!! As I mentioned earlier .. competition drives motivation and fuels the will to achieve. Man , broadly speaking is always an optimist and this optimism drives invention and technology. In this world of Competitive exams filled with all negative human aspects like corruption, jealousy, politics, revenge .. and apart from all these even luck plays a very important role in determining results of any examination.
Expectation and Achievements
Most of the students , I shall put the figure at 95 % put in hardwork and arm themselves with ample preparation for the examination. All them them aspire to top and achieve the best .. but alas its not possible !!! it's the way of life some win some lose !!! Achievements don't always meet expectations.. sometimes it exceeds, falls short of or are very averse to ones expectation. However being disillusioned dosent help, brooding cursing oneself dosent lead one anywhere ... get up and fight .. we live once .. .we have only one chance in this shortlived life to prove oneself and a drive to achieve must burn within you !!! this would propel you to heights of achievement
For the Achievers
After achieving the goal which one wanted ... try and keep your head on your shoulders... dont get over confident and also snotty passing nasty remarks at underachievers... You have achieved one step of your life... gather yourself and prepare for the next exam in Life !!!
Alternative Options
Look for alternative options , when one dosent achieve what he or she has been trying for .. In fact a cautious man in me would advise you to prepare for 2 to 3 alternative options if one fails to achieve in the exams. The age to study before embarking on a Job ,especially in India is quite short probably 26 or 27 .. so time wasted is money wasted ...
Parents Support
An appeal to all Parents , would be parents, wannabe parents.. and that includes me .. do support you child in whatever he does.. if he dosent achieve prod him on !!! Do not be overtly aggressive neither be indifferent a right mix of sternness and warmth would do him a lot of good at the time when he or she is upset too !!!
Avoidance of Depression
Failure or underachievement in examinations isn't the end of the world, spending the day looking out being alone would probably drive one crazy ... plunge him to the depths of depression and might aid him or her to take some cowardly steps.
Be Positive , think positive !!! and always walk ahead and look ahead .. the past is gone !!! , stepping back and brooding on things that could have been done would not help !!!
This is the time when all the major results have been out .. and I requested this topic to MS who as always promptly added the same... This is my way of doing a bit for Students who read this review and probably are in need of some advice or a motivative note
