The lines that you are going to read are mostly about my experiences at school.
Although there were times when I hated the routine of schooling, looking back I miss it like my heartbeat. I had studied in a boarding school ‘where the cool mist spreads’ – Ooty in Nilgiris. The 8 years that I was there was a life in itself. There were tough times to face but also happy days. Getting up at 6am in the cold morning and running off for PT classes by 6:30 and making it to study by 7:30 was all your responsibility. I should say the biggest gain that I had was learning to stand on my feet. Being a 10 year old and taking decisions and being accountable was tough – but you learn it quickly.
Probably the most difficult thing was the feeling of loneliness, especially the first few days after you come back from holidays – being homesick. But as the saying goes, ‘Where there is a will there is a way’. Once you start enjoying the company of so many of your fellow boarders and days-scholars the whole life changes. There can no place elsewhere where you can find so many friends and that too fro so many different places, cultures, traditions. I had friends from all over India and from so many other countries around the world.
To conclude, I would say the biggest gain I had was learning to be self reliant and responsible. So although a bit tough take it in your stride and you will learn to enjoy.
At 30, when I look back, undisputedly the best years of my life so far.
