They told me that oversleeping is not good. They can go to hell. I don't mind. I get complete joy in sleeping. I enjoy it! So I decided to live my 24 years of sleep well to make my rest 46 years fine!

I love to sleep at least 8 hours a day. Normally 12 pm to 8 am…My work begins at 9 pm and I have sufficient time to go to work. I am a late bird or night bird.

My longest sleep was from 10 pm to next day 5 pm continuous, without getting up even once (i.e. 19 hours). It was some 11 years back, I was alone in my room. I could have slept more, but then my room mates returned after their visit to friends and their alarmed call wake me up. My record of not sleeping continuously is limited to 48 hours all time at workplace, and that I know is no record, since I have read in MS that there are people in MS who have not slept for 5 days continuously.

In this review I will give my thoughts on sleeping, which may be interesting for some…I hope you enjoy reading the review as I enjoy sleeping!

Why sleeping?

Our body exists in the support of a self building system. In each second thousands of our body cells are getting damaged and new ones are built. It is a continuous process. There are certain processes which can be done when we are awake and there are numerous processes which body cannot do without relaxing it. Switching off the electric line when some repair is planning is a good example. When we sleep our body is in the process of re-building. The body clock is working. The emergency department is working. But most of the general works are closed. It is like a public holiday. We have to milk our cows anyway. So, in my knowledge so far, we need to make this sleeping relaxing, without tension, no lights, no sounds…good feeling…comfortable. I love to give full freedom to my body to rebuild myself. A good sleep makes my next day wonderful. If I sleep less than 6 hours any night, the next day will be a disaster.

Early rising?

I don't buy the principle. I have seen 2 genres of people. One, who love to sleep early and wakes up early. Second category, people like me, sleep late, wake up late. Whatever the scientists or doctors say, I believe both schools are okay, provided the basic atmosphere is there. The early morning principle is based on the idea that we have to sleep when it is calm and quite outside. It belongs to the old century. Now the day starts by afternoon. Time has changed. So, some can change…Errr? I believe so. I will press the point that we need to keep the atmosphere like night.

Sleeplessness?

True, there are cases where I cannot sleep. After any work, play or doing any activity which need my mind to work more, it is not so easy to close the thought process and put me to sleep. I normally skip this problem by listening to some melodious music, long walks, completely relaxed, shutting my eyes closed and still thinking about the day smoothly, willfully closing the mental files..(it is a mental exercise I used to follow) etc.

My observations on sleeping habits?

1. I love to sleep curled up. I think it is not good for the body structure and spine. So, skipped it slowly and managed to get out of that shape now.

  1. I usually sleep sideways…though they say sleeping straight is good. (I cannot sleep face down like few. I strongly discourage the posture)

  2. I love to be in my comfortable dress…so that the body is relaxed to the maximum. The idea is to allow the maximum freedom for blood flow. Tight dresses are a strict no no…in any form.

  3. Normal temperature is the best. Too much cold or too hot room is not good.

  4. Sleep in a dark room where the sunlight cannot peep into wake you up.

  5. Keep the bedroom clean. Change bed sheets and pillow covers before it can put fungus on your body.

  6. Keep the freshness of the room. After you wake up open up the windows, allow the fresh air to come in. Before going to sleep also you should allow more fresh air to the room.

  7. Over eating require oversleeping. If you are going to sleep soon after eating, your sleeping will not be proper since the body had to do its hard work of digestion.

  8. Don’t' take tension while going for sleeping. Tell yourself, all the tensions for today are finished. Tomorrow can look after tomorrow's problems. Period!

  9. A bath before sleep is a must. It will relax your body muscles a lot.

  10. Coffee, Tea, Alcohol or Carbohydrate drinks can delay your sleep.

  11. Remember a day's anxiousness can bring a bundle of diseases to you.

  12. Fix the time you want to wake up the next day morning. Your body clock is working all time and with simple repetitions of the suggestion you can wake up on correct time.

  13. Put Quality into your sleeping. A 6 hours of deep sleep is good than 8 hours of normal sleep.

  14. Break-sleeping is good, provided you get one.

Compensate your lost sleeping hours in the first possible time. This is important. When we wake up without completing our normal sleep, body keep a lot of important structural for future completion. (Wake from mid sleep your eyes will be red...your balance will not be correct...these are all evidence that we wake up in the middle) so, give the body a chance to maintain itself in the first possible time, i.e. before the damage gets permanent. Take the advise from the Wise: "A properly maintained vehicle is usable for long".

Hay, for a change this review is simply personal. Now you know 33% of me…i.e. when I am sleeping…i.e. say 24 years of me….Wow! That is great 24 years? Yes. I decided to sleep for 24 years (70 years x 8 hrs per day on an average!!!) I know if I take away 1 hour every day, I can work for 3.7 years more. I like to think the other way around. If I am sleeping well, my body repair will be done perfect and which will give me an extra 10 years may be? Hay, all the above notes are simply my personal opinion and it may not have any scientific base. One should practice on one's own risk for the results I am not to be held responsible. Have a nice sleep today and for all the days of the year too!!!
