This year, it seems making a comic flick is like jumping into a 150 feet well! All comic flicks except Krazzy4 have failed to hit the bullseye unlike last year. De Taali also joins the infamous bandwagon of ‘disappointed comic movies of 2008’. There were a lot of expectations on De Taali, but unfortunately the film disappoints, mainly because it was promoted as a comic flick but the movie has very very few funny moments.

The story of the movie: Abhi (Aftab Shivdasani), Paglu (Ritesh Deshmukh) and Amu (Ayesha Takia) are best buddies, living in a foreign town. Abhi always falls for girls, and had fallen in love 31 times! Paglu and Amu were worried that all this may ruin Abhi’s life. Paglu found out that Amu is secretly in love with Abhi. He tells her that she should express her feelings to Abhi. But before she expressed, she was shocked to find that Abhi had already found a girl, Kartika (Rimi Sen), who was a perfect match for Abhi.

The problem with De Taali is that there aren’t many funny moments in the film. In fact in the middle of the movie you may ask “Is this what you called a comedy movie?” The other problem with De Taali is the faulty screenplay. In fact, the screenplay falters a lot in the second half, especially the climax.

But fortunately, the film is not a 100% disaster! The film has a good amount of plusses too which saves the film. The few comic scenes which are present are brilliant. One wished there were some more such sequences!

A lot of scenes stand out in the first hour. Rimi’s unexpected entry, Rimi’s kidnapping and Rimi revealing her true plan were good entertaining sequences. Second half also has quite a few good scenes. The best scene of the movie: Ritesh, in order to torture Rimi, shows her RAM GOPAL VERMA KI AAG!!!!

Even the ‘Alcoholic Support Group’ sequences were excellent. But the climax was another spoiler. It was meant as a funny scene, but it hardly manages to raise laughs. Also, the movie drags a lot in parts.

Out of the four, the best performer is without a shred of doubt Ritesh Deshmukh! Throughout the film, he maintains a strong position of himself and was just fabulous! After his excellent performance in Masti, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Bluffmaster, Apna Sapna Money Money, Cash and Dhamaal, this one is Ritesh’s another memorable performance! And he’s soon going to be seen as Aladdin! I am sure he must have done a great job in it too!

Ayesha Takia also has an important role in the movie and does her wonderful job, like the way she did in Sunday! Aftab Shivdasani also did a fine job, but he didn’t have much to do in the movie, especially in the 2nd half.

Rimi Sen was fabulous and surprisingly did a fantastic job! Her character was quite strong and she did complete justice to it. It was the 1st time she did a negative role and it suited her completely!

Mukul Dev was good especially in the climax but failed to make viewers laugh. Pawan Malhotra looked weird. The woman who played Rimi Sen’s mother was damn funny! Saurabh Shukla did a good job. Anupam Kher was forgettable.

Vishal Shekhar’s music was as usual funky and cool. Best songs of the movie were ‘De Taali’, ‘Everybody Put Your Hands Together’ ‘Hone Lagi’ and ‘Maari Teetri’. ‘Maari Teetri’ was unnecessarily added into the movie.

Dialogues were fine. Screenplay was faulty especially in the climax. Abbas Tyrewala’s story was quite interesting. It was shocking too, but direction and screenplay couldn’t do proper justice to it.

E Niwas’ direction was not completely perfect. In fact, he’s also to blame. He didn’t quite handle the movie well. He created fireworks with Shool and Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega. But unfortunately, this time, he’s not in top form.

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

1.    The above mentioned best songs of the movie

2.    Rimi Sen’s entry

3.    The intermission point

4.    Rimi trying to escape from the toilet

5.    The scene where Rimi almost escaped

6.    Ritesh at Alcoholic Support Group’s meetings (Good one!)

7.    Ritesh at Rimi’s house

On the whole, De Taali is an okay okay types of film. It is promoted as a comedy flick, but it has very few funny moments. Don’t regret if you miss it.
