The man responsible for Englands ignominous exit from world cup 96...the man with the gifted right foot...the man who married a pop star...the man who tends to dominate all style magazines and tabloids...the man who is the soul of ManU...the man who is booed by english fans itself...the England Captain...
All these subroquiets have an inherent contradiction.The man we r talking abt has managed to create and maintain an opinion abt himself which wavers frm extraordinarily gifted to a shame for the nation.
He has been criticised for being an incomplete footballer coz he plays in the midfield but by his own admissoin is not very good at dribbling(imagine Zidane OR Rivaldo) nor can carry the ball along(imagine Maradona OR Figo)but still he is touted as the best when it comes to supplying the crosses and the dead ball situations.Seemingly it is impossible to pontificate on his abilities because he can be better than the best in some wayz and way below average in some other.
He carries this trait in his personality as well, appearing as a toting father, faithful husband and one with a never say die spirit on the field to a juzz another blond filling the tabloids and a saga of disgruntlement and lost temper on the field.These wud tend to disuade yu from coming at an opinion about him.
So wat is the overall picture.
To weave it on a simple fact, he has proven himself to an extent to deserve the Captiancy of England.No mean Feat in a soccer crazy nation where vilification of heroes take less than a second.Secondly his single minded dedication in becoming an overtly respected player in the midfield inspite of his shortcomings tend to speak volumes of the way the man has gone about his job.
Even with all his minuses he has the positives to quantify his value in money respect and sheer joy of watching him score a goal from a free kick.
He is wat it takes to hate to love and love to hate.
