Flynn is famous for her novel Gone girl which has now made it into a movie, Dark places is written prior to that and according to me it is Flynn’s best work so far.
Eventhough the story contains violence and some repulsive material, but it still does justice to the plot. Gillian Flynn through this novel was able to create such a dark plot that while keeping you on the edge of your seat it will also make your hair stand on end.
The main character name is Libby Day, and when she was a child, her family was murdered and on the basis of her testimony, which is partially responsible for putting her brother in jail for the murder of her mother and her elder sister. Now fast forwarding 25 years since that incident took place, Libby is now an adult, .
But never comes to terms with it, never able to move past, the horrific event that happened in her childhood and is now poorly functioning adult. Rather than getting a proper job when she is running out of money, she gets an opportunity by a group of murder enthusiast to revisit the event surrounding her family murder, and since she is short on cash, she ends up taking up their offer. And those are the events that setup this mystery novel.
There are some sexual explicit material, violence and some gruesome scenes, I will not recommend you this novel if you are a bit sensitive to this kind of material. This is definitely not your light hearted summer read, but it is definitely a page turner.
